GFLI listed on PACT for interoperable solutions The GFLI has been going through conformance of the PACT (Partnership for Carbon Transparency).  This initiative is designed to create a network for peer-to-peer exchange of product carbon footprint data.  To address the data access challenge, the PACT set up the PathfindPathfinder Network. The Network brings together different solutions and platforms, with the objective of enabling organizations to have access to the primary emissions data associated with their products. This is an opportunity for increased visibility for GFLI as the solution for feed related emissions, as well as cooperate more closely to related sectors to harmonize methodologies. The GFLI methodology has been updated ❗ The new publication of the GFLI methodology version 2.1 July 2024 is now available for download on the GFLI website. This version includes a first version of a methodological approach to have datasets created for roughages, silages, forages, and fresh grass. Additionally, some minor clarifications were made to accommodate the GFLI’s conformity towards the WBCSD PACT framework. More on that in the next post on Thursday! GFLI was honored to have been invited to participate in the FAO LEAP Annual Meeting at FAO Headquarters in Rome on 15 July. Delanie Kellon joined the FAO LEAP event on "Strengthening Partnerships to Achieve Sustainable Livestock Transformation" and participated in the panel discussion on “FAO LEAP Partnership: A 12 Year Success Story” to share the fundamental role of LEAP in the establishment of the GFLI data collection methodology. In particular, Delanie highlighted the role of LEAP guidance documents in safeguarding the integrity and harmonization of GFLI data before emphasizing the continued – and growing – importance of LEAP as we all seek to limit methodological fragmentation in order to enhance the feed, livestock and food sectors’ ability to calculate high quality, reliable and meaningfully comparable LCAs. Thank you to the FAO LEAP Steering Committee and the FAO LEAP Secretariat for giving GFLI the opportunity to recognize and promote the significance and practical value of the LEAP guidance documents to the full value chain of the feed, livestock and food sectors.   GFLI looks forward to continuing to strengthen our collaboration with the FAO LEAP Partnership as we support the generation of high quality, consistent, and transparently calculated feed and food LCAs. #GFLI #FAOLEAP #Sustainable #Feed #Livestock #Transparency #Alignment #FeedLCA #FoodLCA

LCAfood2024 programme available – GFLI panel discussion The GFLI will lead a panel discussion at the 14th annual conference of the LCAfood2024 event in Barcelona, 8 to 12 September 2024. On September 10, 14:30 – 16:00, the GFLI Secretariat will hold a panel discussion with the topic: ‘Achieving alignment and transparency within the feed and food supply chain: embracing the complexity of new developments in impact assessment and modelling’. GFLI at USSEC technical seminar ‘sustainable feed manufacturing’ U.S. Soybean Export Council (USSEC) has kindly invited the GFLI to speak at their technical seminar for U.S. soy customers from Romania. The seminar on July 9 presents ways of manufacturing efficiency can be improved to maintain the quality of soy, as well as reduce energy consumption and inputs. The following days offer on-site training by ForFarmers UK Preston feed mill. This opportunity provides collaboration between USSEC and GFLI to improve education on the two interlinked topics of efficient and sustainable manufacturing & feed production. Thank you Iani A. First GFLI Partiality commission for external reviewers This week, the GFLI held its first partiality commission for the shortlisted external reviewers. This commission was brought up when we professionalized the external review process by creating a guidance document and updating the review template in 2022. GFLI procedures for a data project dictate an external review after the GFLI reviews the data internally. To improve the understanding of the external reviews, the secretariat started the first ‘Partiality Commission’ with the shortlisted external reviewers. The goal of the partiality commission is for GFLI and external reviewers to connect and discuss technical topics about reviews and finding pathways to uniformize external reviews - as well as smoothen out operational flows. This first meeting mainly focused on sharing current experiences with the GFLI external reviews and gathering feedback on how the available documents and proceedings can be improved.
