FIP is at the 58th meeting of the World Health Organization (WHO) Expert Committee on Specifications for Pharmaceutical Preparations today. During the meeting, the expert committee reviewed pivotal aspects concerning medicines and quality assurance, national laboratories, good manufacturing practices, regulatory guidance and modern schemes, quality control and prequalification. “FIP consistently conducts thorough examinations of the documents under discussion at these meetings. Despite our non-committee status, in the past decade, FIP has provided technical feedback on over 150 documents, ensuring that pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists benefit from WHO guidelines and recommendations,” said FIP lead for policy, practice and compliance Zuzana Kusynova, who represented FIP at the meeting.

Our vice president Lars-Åke Söderlund was in Mexico last week, representing FIP at three congresses: the 20th International Congress of the Organization of Ibero-Latin American Pharmacists, the 4th Congress of the Latin American Network for the Safe Use of Medicines, and the 9th National Congress on Rational Use of Medicines. Mr Söderlund took part in a number of round-table discussions and gave a presentation entitled “Pharmacy towards 2030”, with focus on encouraging the development of the role of community pharmacists in Mexico. “As we approach 2030, community pharmacy is poised to play an increasingly vital role in the global healthcare landscape. By focusing on disease prevention, health literacy, self-care, and vaccination strategies, pharmacists can be at the forefront of delivering comprehensive, patient-centred care,” he said.
