Here’s another inspirational takeaway from keynote speaker Joyce de Ruiter from her Fe male Tech Heroes Conference keynote address, “Leading in Change.” Joyce de Ruiter stunned the audience into silence with a stark choice: go deaf, or go blind? Then she revealed she’s never had the luxury of choosing. At 16, Joyce learned she had Usher Syndrome, a rare genetic and progressive condition that ultimately will render her completely deaf and blind. Doctors told her that her world will become entirely dark and silent around age 40 … which is now. Joyce explained we all have to be flexible and agile during times of change and not listen to those who, like her doctor, told her, “You will be of no use to society.” Joyce tells herself, “I am not the changes in my life. I am not the disease. I am Joyce.” Thank you for putting it all into perspective for us, Joyce. We see you. We hear you. ❤️ Read the full event recap 👉 https://lnkd.in/gh7bkavR #inspiration #femaletechheroes #fromfemtechlowstoglows Hilde Ingelou Cheryl Lale Helen Letícia Vivian Karina Sandra Toam High Tech Campus Eindhoven Dr. Cara Christine

We came across this article on Women's Agenda, written by Friska Wirya, which lays out a roadmap for tech organizations to retain and support women in their organizations. ✅ Revamp job descriptions Research shows women apply for jobs only when they meet 100% of the criteria, while men apply when they meet about 60%. We should craft inclusive job descriptions that emphasize core skills and competencies rather than an exhaustive laundry list of qualifications. ✅ Prioritize flexible work arrangements A 2020 McKinsey & Company study found 73% of employees prefer some form of remote work. This flexibility opens doors for women who have caregiving responsibilities. This means leaving early to do the school pick up, attend an awards ceremony, or watch a netball game. Unapologetically. ✅ Foster mentorship and sponsorship programs According to a Catalyst Inc. study, women with mentors are 56 per cent more likely to sit at the decision-making table. Organizations should establish structured mentorship and sponsorship programs, ensuring women have access to guidance, support and opportunities for career progression. (Role models: near and dear to our FTH hearts!) ✅ Address unconscious bias in hiring and promotion A Harvard Business Review study showed identical resumes with male and female names were evaluated differently, with the male candidates being perceived as more competent and hirable. Companies must implement bias-aware hiring practices to level the playing field. Hard stop. ✅ Invest in continuous learning and development According to a report by the World Economic Forum, by 2025, more than half of all employees will require significant reskilling. Offering accessible training and upskilling programs equips women with the skills they need to excel in their roles. By implementing these five crucial shifts, organizations can create an environment where women not only enter the industry but stay to advance their careers. It’s time for a transformation that will not only benefit women but the tech industry as a whole. 😍 We love and support Dirkjan Hupkes' podcast, Women Disrupting Tech. In a January episode, he interviewed prominent Fe male Tech Heroes community member, Núria Barceló i Peiró, Public Cooperations Program, Project Manager, at NXP Semiconductors. 💪 Dirkjan’s podcast features powerhouse women working in tech organizations who serve as role models, much like we showcase role models in the Fe male Tech Heroes community and on our blog series. 🚀 Nuria is a special breed. She’s a computer engineer and has held several technical positions during her 10-year tenure at NXP. She is the Women in NXP Lead in the Netherlands and Europe. She is very active in the FTH community, attending events and participating in discussions, and within the past two years, she became one of the founding “mothers” and general manager of Role It Out, a Female Role Model agency for women in tech. Dirkjan points out what he thinks is “magical” about this episode: “First, Núria is quite outspoken, so she makes a point of telling her male colleagues that not everyone thinks like them. But she is also very aware that she has challenges with other aspects of diversity as she is not a minority. That is why she thinks bringing visibility to those aspects is crucial.” ☢ Take a break, listen to the podcast and find some inspiration: https://lnkd.in/eSM2wZMY #femaletechheroes #genderequality #diversity #femaleleaders #inspiration Hilde Ingelou Cheryl Helen Letícia Vivian Lale Toam Sandra Karina Clara High Tech Campus Eindhoven

The Fe male Tech Heroes community is five years old this year and more than 4,000 members strong! 💪 Why do people join FTH? Because, as a community, we give everyone a place to BE. To be themselves. To be with others. To be heard. To be valued. To be inspired. 💡 Our annual conferences are packed with content for attendees who come for all the reasons we just laid out. But we think one of the most important reasons they come is to be inspired. The keynotes at this year’s conference were off-the-charts inspiring. We were moved by Dr. Cara Antoine's story, and her message was particularly poignant: "Be the change to get the future you want. I believe in you." ⚡ Inspiration gives us energy and motivation to move the needle, make a dent, feel empowered to amplify gender equality and diversity within the tech industry. 🫱🏻🫲🏽 Join us. ⭐️ Meet Kitty Jochem, employee #5 at SMART Photonics, who has risen through the ranks to Vice President Engineering. 🚀 Kitty is a powerhouse in the world of #integratedphotonics and always tops the list when talking about women doing great things in the field of high tech, our definition of a true Female Tech Hero. 🦸♀️ But she didn’t get there easily. In fact, she almost never got here at all. 💪 Kitty fought hard against societal norms to get where she is today. She is only at this point in her career because of a willingness to fight to get ahead and the experiences that have shaped her. Although being discouraged at an early age from pursuing a career in #science, the rebel she was (and still is) went for it. And she succeeded! 🙌 Today, Kitty is helping other women achieve their full potential and push through the biases that remain. Today we're bringing you our next role model with a twist: Fe male Tech Heroes role model #49 is actually a dynamic duo! Meet Astrid Pouwels and Eliene Rutten, two women advancing medical device development in the region 💪. These remarkable ladies are engineers by trade and now hold leadership roles as project managers at Demcon. Despite their similar roles today, they started their journeys from different studies and different starting points in their careers After working for startups post-graduation, both women were hired by Demcon to work in medical technology and product development. Their different backgrounds have informed their perspectives on their work and on the importance of diversity and equality in their field 🤲. Pouwels and Rutten see firsthand the impact of diversity on company culture and innovation. For them, Demcon provides an open, welcoming and diverse environment, where individuals feel valued and supported regardless of gender. It makes all the difference in individual empowerment and personal development in a STEM career. “It's not like women should be like men. It's not like we should be like male leaders. We can do it in a very authentic way that fits us. For a woman, that might be very different,” Rutten believes. Pouwels feels the same way. “It's not my method to be very overpowering in a meeting. That’s not my style,” she says. “Finding your own way of leadership is important.” Read the full article to explore their story, their experience at Demcon and their insights into the importance of equality for leadership and empowering new generations 🚀: https://lnkd.in/eR4xV2At #femaletechheroes #tech #innovation #diversity #inclusion #empowerment #engineering #management #STEM #womeninSTEM #rolemodel

👋 Meet Fe male Tech Hero Beatriz Seoane de la Cuesta, Group Lead and Function Owner at ASML. 🔬 Some of you may recognize yourselves in Beatriz when she talks about her youth: “I was the kid playing with a microscope. It was always science. I just loved it. I could spend hours doing math,” she says. Beatriz had plenty of role models along the way, a her pursuit of a science career was not an uphill battle for her. Her family is embedded in the sciences, so maybe it’s in her genes. It comes as no surprise that today she works at ASML, Europe’s most valuable tech company. 🚀 At age 13, she competed in Math Olympiad, which pushed her onto the path to study Chemical Engineering in Spain. Beatriz became a Material Scientist during her PhD studies in the Netherlands. ❤️ Beatriz is a success story in her own right. But the support she received along the way – from her family, inspiring professors, mentors and sponsors – put her firmly on the path to a science career. She described her mentors as people “who believe you can become what you want, who trust you when you do not trust yourself yet. Good sponsors are “the people who say your name in the room when you're not there,” she said. Beartriz found her place at Women at ASML, and she is now a board member of this internal group. She loves the impact and change this group can make. Now she helps others by being a role model to men and women throughout ASML and the community. As an organization, we understand the enormous importance of role models. Beatriz’s can be marked up as a huge success story – as a mentee and a mentor.
