On 4 and 5 July, Feadship’s Ronno Schouten (Senior specialist) and Bram Jongepier (Senior specialist) were speakers at the Monaco Energy Boat Challenge (MEBC) 2024. At the Alternative Fuels conference on Thursday, Ronno discussed Feadship’s view on nuclear yachts. He explained that while small modular reactors are technically feasible in the future, it makes more sense to use them onshore to produce green methanol for yachts. The following day, at the fifth Monaco Hydrogen Round Table, Bram shared insights on the liquid hydrogen fuel cell system onboard Project 821. He talked about the design and build process as well as its capacities: currently the world’s only gas fuel tank below decks on a ship, and the highest power fuel cell installation afloat. Industry representatives were aligning on key points: using HVO for the current fleet, methanol for the near future, and hydrogen for zero-emission or small boats. The industry needs products like dual fuel engines and fuel cells, as well as regulations tailored to yachting. Feadship recently hosted this year's Young Designers of the Year (YDOY) finalists for an exclusive workshop and yard visit. Organised annually by Boat International, the YDOY award highlights emerging talent in the superyacht industry. “At Feadship, we believe in nurturing talent and fostering innovation in yacht design,” said Chief Marketing Officer Farouk Nefzi.“ This collaboration allows us to share our passion and expertise with the next generation of designers. SPLASH | Watch as Project 713, with her beautifully balanced exterior profile designed by Studio De Voogt and contemporary interior by Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design, exits the shed for the first time. This 59.50-metre yacht, with her elegant blue-grey hull and white superstructure, represents a significant step in Feadship's journey towards climate neutrality by 2030. Equipped with advanced diesel-electric propulsion and the ability to run on non-fossil HVO, Project 713 is a testament to Feadship's commitment to sustainability. She is also the first Feadship to carry solar cells for auxiliary power generation, with over 87 square metres of high-efficiency solar cells integrated into the curved superstructure surfaces. These walkable, saltwater-resistant panels can generate up to 24 MWh annually of power. Moreover, Project 713 is the first new-build Feadship to feature FSC-certified plantation teak for all decking, ensuring that the wood is harvested in a sustainable way. In addition to this overall award, Feadship also received the title of “ Best Yard for Yacht Investment 2024”. This award recognises the yard whose vessels best retain resale value according to leading yacht brokers and financiers.   The Superyacht Investor Yard Awards are decided by the world’s leading yacht brokers and yacht financiers and are presented during their annual conference. The awards are designed to help owners decide on both new builds and used yachts. “To be voted for by the people who buy, sell and finance superyachts is a powerful confirmation that you are not only setting the benchmark but pushing beyond it,” said Rob Hodgetts, editor of Superyacht Investor.    On behalf of Feadship, Giedo Loeff, Head of Research and Development, received both trophies at the Royal Garden Hotel, Kensington.
