🎇 🎇 Today marks the final day of EGPD2024! 🎇 🎇 Our day began with a visit to The Rijswijk Centre for Sustainable Geo-energy (RCSG), an integral component of TNO's innovation ecosystem. RCSG serves as an open innovation laboratory dedicated to enhancing geo-energy technologies to expedite the global energy transition. With a specific emphasis on geothermal energy, a pivotal renewable energy source, RCSG focuses on subsurface storage of heat, hydrogen, and CO2. The center offers state-of-the-art facilities for comprehensive testing and demonstration of novel drilling techniques, fluid dynamics, and materials performance under extreme pressure and temperature conditions. As part of TNO, the largest independent research organization in the Netherlands, RCSG contributes significantly to advancing sustainable energy solutions. Later in the afternoon, we had the privilege of visiting the TU Delft Subsurface Urban Energy Lab. Prof. Phil Vardon provided an insightful overview of the ongoing DAPwell project, shedding light on the rationale behind project decisions, the challenges encountered during drilling operations, and the successful completion of injector and producer installations. Additionally, we had the opportunity to witness firsthand the drilling activities at one of the wells under the PUSH-IT project, where Alexis Koulidis provided us with an overview of the ongoing drilling operations. Furthermore, our visit included a tour of the laboratory facilities within the Section of Geo-Engineering at TU Delft, which forms an integral part of the EPOS-NL laboratory network. These field trips mark the end of EGPD2024, characterized by fruitful exchanges and knowledge dissemination. Following our keynote speakers, we hosted presentations and pitches presented by our early-career researchers (mostly Ph.D candidates). This event provides an exceptional platform for the young generation of geothermal people to showcase their projects, engage in discussions regarding their interesting results, and explain their posters to an audience with a diverse range of backgrounds. Additionally, attendees enjoyed a delightful lunch sponsored by our generous sponsors, EERA - The European Energy Research Alliance JP Geothermal Energy, NWO (Dutch Research Council), Ennatuurlijk Aardwarmte, PanTerra Geoconsultants BV, Energi Simulation, FOLIAGE, 4TU Centre for Energy. At the end of the day, we conducted two votes. The first determined the best poster from each session, and an overall winner from all sessions, Luka Tas from Ghent University, who got the prize of free access to GET2024 5th EAGE Global Energy Transition Conference & Exhibition and free EAGE membership for 2025! Congratulations Luka! The second vote, even more interesting, we decided all together the next host for EGPD2025. Today, our morning session commenced with an enlightening presentation delivered by Susanne Laumann from EERA - The European Energy Research Alliance JP Geothermal Energy. The topic of her talk centered around "EERA Joint Programme Geothermal Energy & the Delft geothermal project," which set the stage for a series of productive presentations, pitches, and poster sessions. In the afternoon, Martijn Klaver from NWO (Dutch Research Council) took the floor to discuss how NWO supports early-stage researchers and contributes to advancements in geothermal energy research. Our third keynote speaker, Niels Hartog from Utrecht University, addressed the topic "Of course geothermal has (potential) environmental impact: the narrow path of addressing it proactively." These thought-provoking presentations sparked engaging discussions and marked a promising start to the second day of EGPD2024.
