Eleven is an international academic publisher in the fields of law, public administration and criminology

Over ons

Eleven International Publishing (The Netherlands), established in 2003 by Selma Hoedt, built a high quality list in international law and developed a strong market presence. It was acquired by Boom uitgevers Den Haag on Jan 1, 2010. Since 2010, Eleven International Publishing has been continued as an imprint of Boom uitgevers Den Haag, becoming Boom’s English language publishing arm. As well as continuing to publish timely legal titles, Eleven International Publishing expanded its production to include criminology, public administration and political sciences titles, as part of Boom uitgevers Den Haag’s goal of establishing themselves as a fully-fledged international academic publishing company. Eleven is a modern company, applying all the latest techniques available to publishers, but in its relations with its authors and customers it will return to standards of service and courtesy which have too often been forgotten elsewhere.

📚 Recently published: 'Convention Constitutionalism' 🔍 About the book: The European Court of Human Rights has been criticized for unduly interfering in democratic decision processes. Some argue that the unelected Strasbourg activists in robes should not interfere with democratic policy decisions that were made nationally. This inaugural lecture analyses this practice of rights-based judicial review by the Strasbourg Court. The first part presents a general legal-philosophical background. The second part employs this conceptual toolbox to describe and analyse judicial review as exercised by the Strasbourg Court. The third part provides a normative discussion of the Strasbourg Court in the context of the emerging European constitutional landscape. 💡 Important insights: - Judicial review as exercised by the Strasbourg Court is best understood as a weakened form of strong judicial review. - The European Convention on Human Rights is first and foremost a collaboration of Party States that pursue congruent constitutional-democratic projects. 📚 Get your copy: https://lnkd.in/g9TK2eSM This book is part of the Maastricht Law Series: https://lnkd.in/gV4dUudw 🗣️ Start the conversation: Should the European Court Exercise Weak or Strong Judicial Review?
