Evaluating the impact of the EU’s support to Nigeria 🌍 Ecorys is proud to conduct the Strategic Evaluation of the European Union's Cooperation with the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The evaluation will provide insights into the EU’s programming, focusing on the transition towards a 'Global Gateway' cooperation framework. Our work will assess the relevance, coherence, and effectiveness of EU-financed initiatives across priority sectors—including sustainable economic development, peace and security, and human development—while addressing cross-cutting goals such as climate action and gender equality. By identifying contributing and hindering factors, we will deliver evidence-based recommendations to enhance EU-Nigeria partnerships and support long-term development. #Ecorys #Nigeria #EU #GlobalGateway #Evaluation

Celebrating 5 Years of BAF II 🎉 We are thrilled to share the success of the BAF II programme, a key component of the Lao PDR Competitiveness and Trade (LCT) Project that Ecorys has been implementing with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce since 2019. On September 13th, we hosted a special event in Vientiane to showcase the achievements and impact of BAF II. The event was attended by senior figures from the government of Laos, development partners, and private sector. The event featured the launch of Laos’ first-ever Business Development Services (BDS) directory, case studies from some of the 360 businesses benefiting from BAF II grants, a series of expert talks, and booths from 30 local companies showcasing the programme’s impact. Second Workshop of the EHS&CP held in Brussels 🤝 💧 Hydrogen is pivotal to the transition towards a climate-neutral economy, enabling emission-free transport, heating, industrial processes, and inter-seasonal energy storage. At Ecorys, we support the Clean Hydrogen Partnership in its mission to position the EU as a leader in sustainable and circular hydrogen technologies and value chains. To achieve this, we established the European Hydrogen Sustainability and Circularity Panel (EHS&CP), aimed at driving the greening of hydrogen production, storage, distribution, and end uses. ♻ Last week, the panel of experts met for the second time, reflecting on a valuable presentation of the Panel’s work on sustainability and circularity in the European hydrogen ecosystem. Insights gained from the Panel's work will guide future projects and programmes. 💡 Special thanks to the European Commission, JRC, Hydrogen Europe, and Hydrogen Europe Research for their contributions. We look forward to strengthening our collaboration with the EHS&CP.

At Ecorys we help our clients with shaping policies to make a positive impact on society. We do this by providing consultancy services in the fields of economic, social and spatial development in a wide variety policy areas 💡 Last week, Mario Draghi, former president of the European Central Bank, presented his report on the future of European competitiveness. The report looks at the challenges faced by the industry and companies in the European Single Market. How can Europe remain competitive in the future? 🌍 The findings will contribute to the European Commission’s work on a new plan for Europe’s sustainable prosperity and competitiveness. Ecorys will keep supporting its clients with research and advice to answer these challenges and develop a sustainable European economic agenda. We are proud to mention that our work on rolling stock supply was picked up in the report. Our study (for the European Parliament) concluded that the EU has a strong and cutting edge railway equipment sector that is highly important in the global value chain, and presents an opportunity for Europe to remain competitive. 🌞 Summer holidays are the perfect time to explore vibrant destinations, and Lisbon stands out not just for its beauty but also for its #sustainability initiatives. 🌿 Did you know that during the 2008 economic crisis, Lisbon embarked on a journey towards becoming a greener, more liveable city? Fast forward a decade, and Lisbon's efforts were in 2020 recognised with the prestigious European #GreenCapital award, making it the first Southern European city to receive this honour! 🏆 Now, the Câmara Municipal de Lisboa is taking sustainability to the next level by incorporating #CircularEconomy principles into its #urbandevelopment strategy. Here are some key insights on how the city is achieving this: 1️⃣ Collaboration is key: Partnering with other cities can lead to larger, more innovative projects. Collaboration simplifies securing funding and fosters shared learning. 2️⃣ Policy alignment: Focus on projects that align with the city's existing policy agenda. This ensures smoother implementation and maximises circular impacts. 3️⃣ Expert management: Navigating (EU-funded) project applications and management requires significant time and expertise. Investing in training internal staff or hiring external experts can facilitate this. 4️⃣ Local engagement: Involving local partners boosts project effectiveness and secures long-term commitment and continuity. 5️⃣ Independent expertise: External experts can serve as "honest brokers" to demonstrate the necessity and benefits of the circular transition, helping to convince stakeholders of its value and impact. Lisbon’s experience sets an inspiring example on how cities can successfully blend sustainability with economic growth. And you? Which sustainability champion city are you visiting this #summer?
