Econowind is fully dedicated to wind-assisted ship propulsion. We offer foldable and autonomous units in different sizes to propel a variety of coastal vessels. Benefits: Reduce emission by using wind as renewable energy source Meet Poseidon Principles (aer) and Energy Efficiency goals (EEDI/ EEXI) Available systems: Econowind Flatrack unit The Flatrack unit is based on ISO-fix corners and can quickly be placed and removed. Giving a flexible solution for a variety of vessels such as general cargo vessels or other vessels. The Flatrack system has the advantage to be moved with the hatch crane of the vessel, no additional harbour equipment is needed to move the flatrack system, which provides flexibility in use. the eConowind-unit This award-winning unit is based on a 40 ft sea container and can quickly be placed and removed. Giving a flexible solution for a variety of vessels such as general cargo vessels, tankers or other vessels with room for one or two 40 ft sea container(s).

    Introducing MV Sunnanvik, the first cargo ship equipped with sails to operate in the Great Lakes. The 8,600 DWT mechanical/pneumatic cement carrier is owned and operated by Eureka, a CSL and SMT joint venture, and began trading on the Lakes in April 2024. Two flexible, vertical “Ventofoil” sails from Econowind were installed on the ship in 2023 as part of our ongoing commitment to invest in and test cutting-edge eco-friendly technologies to reduce emissions. These innovative sails are mounted in movable containers with reinforced deck foundations, allowing them to harness wind energy for additional thrust. This not only boosts the vessel’s speed in favourable conditions but can also lower emissions. The installation of the sails was completed in just 10 days, and the insights gained from MV Sunnanvik will guide our future projects. We are excited about the potential to apply this on other ships for a more sustainable maritime industry. _____________ Le MV Sunnanvik est le premier navire-cargo équipé de voiles à naviguer sur les Grands Lacs. Ce navire cimentier mécanique/pneumatique de 8 600 TPL est détenu et exploité par Eureka, une coentreprise de CSL et SMT, et a commencé à naviguer sur les Grands Lacs en avril 2024. Deux voiles verticales flexibles « Ventofoil » d'Econowind ont été installées sur le navire en 2023 dans le cadre de notre engagement continu à investir et tester des technologies écologiques de pointe pour réduire les émissions. Ces voiles innovantes sont montées dans des conteneurs mobiles avec des fondations de pont renforcées, ce qui leur permet d'exploiter l'énergie éolienne pour obtenir une propulsion supplémentaire. Cela permet non seulement d'augmenter la vitesse du navire dans des conditions favorables, mais aussi de réduire les émissions. L'installation des voiles a été réalisée en 10 jours seulement, et les enseignements tirés du MV Sunnanvik guideront nos futurs projets.     Rigid sails onboard merchant seagoing vessels become more common these days but this is the first time I come across them in real life. A bit out of ordinary, beautiful old lady "Marfret Niolon" has this 21st century technology onboard. Remotely operated from the bridge, these sails from Econowind provide fuel economy, which means less harmful substances to atmosphere. Moreover, a tab with online weather data is installed on the bridge, getting reliable network connection thanks to Starlink and provides up-to-date weather data, instructions to retract or standby the sails and even optimize the route based on this data for better fuel saving. Isn't a great example of future with humanity combining technologies to achieve zero harm to environment?
