Last week our CEO Frans-Willem de Kloet and Business Director Floris Schiks joined the #ClimateWeekNYC event. Key takeaways from the event: 1. Scope3 and supplier engagement were the key themes of the discussion. The majority of impact (80% or higher) of large manufacturers such as Hempel A/S, Unilever (and other WBCSD – World Business Council for Sustainable Development members') comes from Scope 3 upstream e.g. their suppliers. Many have set ambitious targets for 2030-2035, aiming for a 50% reduction of Scope 3 in those years. That means they will work closely with their (SME) suppliers and support them in their journeys. 2. Today a lot of Scope3 data is based on secondary information. While 89% of the companies are searching for supplier-specific data, only 6% currently use it. The industry shows us that that is not enough; primary data from suppliers is required. 3. WBCSD PACT has already 250 members joining the initiative. Together these members are responsible for 20% of total worldwide emissions. 4. SMEs are extremely important in the worldwide climate challenge as they represent 90% of all businesses. But they need a lot of support (finance, tools) in their transition to net zero to take action. 5. According to ROCKWOOL Group, 30-40% of total worldwide climate impact comes from buildings worldwide. The construction industry has a huge responsibility to 1) reduce this impact through creating and/or reconstructing buildings that consume far less energy, and 2) implement materials that absorb CO2. 6. Many CEOs have stated that the regulations should become stricter and clearer for the private sector in order to invest. 7. The minister of the Environment of China has announced a heavy focus on carbon data, especially in Product Carbon accounting. The biggest driver for this is CBAM regulation in Europe. The key takeaway? You can’t fix it if you don’t measure it. Want to learn more about product carbon footprinting? You can still join us for a free interactive workshop this week @ 1 PM CEST, October 2, 2024. We'll discuss why product carbon footprint is important, the most common mistakes in measuring it and how to avoid them, and more.

Product Footprinting and Company Footprinting: which one do I need? And what's the difference between the two? Read on: 💚 Product Carbon Footprinting (PCF) measures the total greenhouse gas emissions associated with a specific product. 💚 Company Footprinting (CF) measures the emissions generated by an entire organization, directly and indirectly (i.e.: energy use, employee commuting, and supply chain emissions). 🌱 PCF or LCA? Start with what's needed! In today’s fast-paced sustainability landscape, it’s easy to assume that a full Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is always the answer. But as Morten's experience highlights, sometimes a Product Carbon Footprint (PCF) is more than enough. It costs less, takes less time, and is easily scalable into a full LCA assessment—if you need it. At Ecochain, we believe in empowering you to choose the right method for your needs—whether it's a straightforward PCF calculation or a full LCA. Want to measure your CO2 impact? Ecochain Mobius Carbon is an intuitive solution that packages reliable data, templates, and expert services while keeping future scalability in mind. Start simple, save resources, and upgrade to a full LCA when necessary—all with expert support guiding you every step of the way. 🌍✨ Thanks for sharing, Morten Carlsen!
