This week ECCO, ECCO Leather B.V., and at.kollektive made their debut at Capsule Plaza in Milan, Italy for Milan Design Week. With the multi-faceted, immersive exhibition Materials Matter, the attendees were taken on a journey to celebrate the formative role of material choices and their importance for shaping the future for design and innovation. Showcasing and highlighting the versatility of leather and PU through an interactive workshop, participants obtained hands-on experience with ECCO Leather’s Organic Tanned Leather (ISO 15115:2019(E)). The exhibition was open to visitors – from seasoned leather experts to curious minds looking for knowledge and inspiration. The installation cleverly merges art, technology, and craftsmanship, and brings material and community together with participants invited to leave their own imprint on the materials. These annual four-day HOT-SHOP events allow participants to envision new leather directions and work in integrated teams to prototype and sample new leather.

Whether you talk about designing, making poetry, cooking, or leather making – the art of creating is all about mixing the right ingredients in just the right amounts at the perfect time. This year’s HOT-SHOP, ECCO Leather B.V.'s annual four-day workshop engineered to challenge conventional leather creation, was themed around cooking. 180 participants – designers, futurists, artists, material specifiers, marketers and leather technicians from around the world – got to cook with Greek celebrity chef Akis in a creative icebreaker before they were challenged to cook up their own three-course ‘meal’ in the form of exclusive, fun, and innovative leathers.
