  • 🌟Navigating the Tech Landscape: New Insights for Career Switchers 🌟 TechMeUp's latest research sheds light on the challenges faced by those transitioning into tech careers, especially individuals from migration backgrounds or with limited Dutch language proficiency. 👀 Key findings: 𝐄𝐱𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐉𝐨𝐛 𝐒𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡: The average time for TechMeUp graduates to secure a job has increased from 67 days in the first half of 2023 to 91 days currently. 𝐋𝐚𝐧𝐠𝐮𝐚𝐠𝐞 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐫: Language proficiency is a significant barrier, with many employers requiring at least a B1 level in Dutch, despite candidates being fluent in English.     ✨ I had the privilege of moderating an 'Ask Me Anything Session' with Sergio Panday from ROOTS INSPIRE and Constantijn Van Oranje-Nassau from Techleap at TNW Conference 2024, where we delved into the crucial topic of allyship. 🔥 The interactive conversation was incredibly enriching, as both Sergio and Constantijn shared perspectives that went beyond conventional wisdom and politically correct messaging. A few standout moments for me: 💬 Sergio suggested replacing 'allyship' with 'sponsorship.' He believes the term 'allyship' can imply that support is about helping 'the other' solve 'their' problem. In reality, the lack of equity in our industry is everyone's problem, and we all share the responsibility to address it. A sponsor uses their privilege to advance the disadvantaged, benefiting everyone. Allyship is not charity. 💬 Constantijn humorously acknowledged his apparent privilege but highlighted the most significant one: having the opportunity to connect with people from all corners of the world and walks of life. This privilege has made it natural for him to relate to others, regardless of their identity or background. By experiencing the richness and value diversity and inclusion bring, he believes it's just pure logic to want to leverage his privileges to uplift everyone and ensure no one is left behind. ⭐ There were so many gems in this lively and open conversation, shaped significantly by the insightful questions from the audience.
