Yesterday, we celebrated Keti Koti, or Dia di Abolishon, commemorating the abolition of slavery. Keti Koti, meaning ‘shackles broken’, marks the emancipation of enslaved people in Suriname and the Dutch Antilles 151 years ago. As we celebrate, we reflect on this horrific system, its victims, and its ongoing impact. At dentsu Benelux, we believe it is important to honor Keti Koti, to acknowledge our shared history and be a force for good. We have partnered with the good people of 'Free Heri Heri For All' to invite our colleagues to enjoy a traditional Surinamese Heri Heri meal, prepared with cassava, sweet potato, banana, salted fish, and egg. During the meal, we discussed the significance of Keti Koti and how we can work together towards a more inclusive society.
