Het is al weer even geleden, maar afgelopen februari kreeg ik de kans van Demcon om het vak Design Principles for Precision Mechanisms (DPPM2) aan de University of Twente te volgen. In maart heb ik een examen gemaakt en in mei mocht ik samen met collega's ons project verdedigen. Na een periode van veel kennis op doen ben ik trots om te mogen mededelen dat ik het vak succesvol heb afgerond! Ik heb veel geleerd van het vak en ik ga de vaardigheden die ik heb opgedaan dagelijks gebruiken bij het ontwerpen van precisie systemen als mechanical engineer bij Demcon high-tech systems.

Event report in Mikroniek: Clean Event and Manufacturing Technology Conference In mid-April 2024, the second edition of the Manufacturing Technology Conference and the fifth edition of the Clean Event were held together, for the first time, at the Koningshof in Veldhoven (NL). Currently, developing a high-quality product involves ever more requirements, complex steps and challenges during the production process, ranging from determining the most suitable manufacturing technique to complying with cleanliness requirements. In order to offer companies better insight into and control over these challenges, the two events joined forces. This Mikroniek article gives a report, including presentations from Stefano Sgobba (CERN), Steffijn de Koning (ASML) and other experts active in and for the hightech industry, including the field of #additivemanufacturing. The annual #CleanEvent, organised by Mikrocentrum, focuses on the control of #cleanliness and #contamination through the entire #manufacturing process, smart product design that facilitates cleanliness, and mitigation of contamination risks during the assembly and packaging processes. This year, the fifth edition featured 70 exhibitors and attracted some 800 visitors. Voor behoud en versterking van de semicon-sector in Nederland zijn de komende jaren 38.000 mensen nodig, waarvan ongeveer 70% in de Brainportregio. Om de komende vijf jaar hieraan te werken heeft het kabinet 275 miljoen euro van de totale beschikbare middelen gereserveerd voor de plannen in de Brainportregio.   Het (nationale) versterkingsplan beschrijft de aanpak om hierin te voorzien, waarbij het kabinet de samenwerking stimuleert tussen diverse regio’s in Nederland, zoals Twente, Groningen, Delft en Brainport Eindhoven. Daarin is veel aandacht voor alle opleidingsniveaus (MBO, HBO en WO) en het om- en bijscholen van mensen via Leven Lang Ontwikkelen. In de Brainportregio zetten we onder andere in op de nieuwe en gezamenlijk ‘Brainport Academy’, die wordt opgezet in samenwerking met Summa College en ROC Ter AA, Fontys University of Applied Sciences, Eindhoven University of Technology en de arbeidsmarktregio’s Zuidoost-Brabant en Arbeidsmarktregio Helmond-De Peel. The Dutch chip industry is one of the most advanced, putting the Netherlands on a competitive edge in developing crucial chip technology. That is why the Dutch chip sector is calling for extra support from the newly sworn-in government. Over thirty companies, including giants #ASML and #NXP, are appealing for substantial annual investments from the government. They argue that without such support, the Netherlands risks losing its competitive edge, as global competition intensifies and other nations ramp up their investments. How do we fly? The hydrofoils lift our boat above the water, reducing drag and allowing for efficient sailing. To ensure stability while flying, our electronic control system adjusts the angles of the hydrofoils in real-time, adapting to varying conditions. To design this control system, we use models and simulations. The extensive experience with control systems of our partner Demcon is invaluable in this process. Demcon supports us in the development and tuning of the control system, ensuring optimal flight performance! A huge shoutout to our partner, Demcon, for their assistance not only with the control system but also with the lift and drag calculations for the hydrofoils! Excited about being part of the #ICARUS project and being able to contribute to developing atmospheric reentry technologies and space sustainability. The project aims at the development and flight test of an inflatable heat shield for the re-use of launcher stages or precious cargo during reentry and descent to Earth or even Mars. After a successful kick-off in June 2024, it is now time to work towards (real-life) testing of the inflatable heat shield, which is planned for 2028. Together with TU Delft | Aerospace Engineering and Somni Solutions #Demconhightechsystems will work on the development of the fiber optic sensor in the inflatable heat shield to measure a set of parameters (i.a. temperature).
