𝐈𝐦𝐚𝐠𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐫𝐨𝐥𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐫𝐞𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐦𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐞𝐱𝐭𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐜𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠-𝐞𝐝𝐠𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐜𝐲𝐜𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬. Currently, textile recycling plants manually sort textiles based on labels, a labor-intensive and unreliable process that contributes to a growing pile of textile waste. ⛰️🗑️   This is where Maura Dantuma, an optical engineer at Demcon focal, steps in. Maura is pioneering a sensor-based recycling technique that directly analyzes textile properties, bypassing the need for unreliable labels and enabling automated sorting. This innovation promises a more reliable, cost-effective, and time-efficient recycling process, significantly reducing #textile #waste. ♻️   In her role, Maura is at the forefront of this diverse and groundbreaking project. Meet the Demcon focal team Enschede/Munster. Sinds January 2024 we have two new team members. We will introduce them to you: Matteo Spaeker (top right corner): "My name is Matteo and I am part of the Demcon focal team since January 2024. I have a master in photonics. Before I joined Demcon, I worked as a research assistant in the field of adaptive optics at Münster University of Applied Sciences. I really like working at Demcon focal because the projects are very varied and the whole team is nice and willing to help you." Joost ter Haar (middle row, orange sleeve): "I fulfil the role of optical engineer at Demcon focal. During my studies, Applied Physics, I was a working student at Demcon focal for a year and a half. As I was already familiar with the team it was a smooth start for my first job. I am looking forward to working with the team!" Besides working on projects in optics and vision, we also regularly give lectures to students and business clubs. 𝐓𝐍𝐎 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐃𝐞𝐦𝐜𝐨𝐧 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐥𝐝’𝐬 𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐭𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐬𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐩 𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 We shipped the first Laser Projection System together with TNO to the European Southern Observatory (ESO). The system projects a so called 'laser guide star’ into the atmosphere, which helps telescopes to focus on astronomical objects far away. While this system already existed, TNO decided that it was time to further improve on it. That’s why TNO approached Demcon focal, specialists in optomechatronic systems.   With this new technology scientist are hoping to make new discoveries about for example the evolution of the universe after the Big Bang and the formation of stars and galaxies. In total, Demcon Focal and TNO will build nine of these systems for ESO’s Very Large Telescope and Extremely Large Telescope.   Do you want to know more about the project and the laser projection system developed by TNO and Demcon focal?
