Maura is pioneering a sensor-based recycling technique that directly analyzes textile properties, bypassing the need for unreliable labels and enabling automated sorting. This innovation promises a more reliable, cost-effective, and time-efficient recycling process, significantly reducing #textile #waste. ♻️   In her role, Maura is at the forefront of this diverse and groundbreaking project. With basic queueing theory based on the customer's already available logging data from the current production system, we have shown that a different architecture would increase the system's throughput by 50%. Did you know that early ALS diagnosis can lead to a better quality of life in patients with ALS?   This was shown in a study https://lnkd.in/etWw5SVi by Subodh Chapagain et al., July 2023, which aim was to demonstrate that early diagnosis is essential for effective management of the disease.   Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (#ALS) is a disease that affects both upper and lower motor neurons, causing a range of symptoms beyond the motor system. Recent research has shown that the autonomic nervous system can also be affected, with symptoms such as orthostatic hypotension, fluctuations in blood pressure, and dizziness being reported. In this study a 58-year-old male patient was diagnosed with ALS with #dysautonomia and #respiratoryfailure. The authors conclude that further research is needed to fully understand the pathophysiology of dysautonomia in ALS and its impact on disease progression and quality of life.   Finapres® devices are used for monitoring #bloodpressure measurement continuously and non-invasively in research into #dysautonomia and #orthostatichypotension, and is a valuable tool for supporting clinical decision making.   Do you want to learn more about the need for more research into ALS? Today we're bringing you our next role model with a twist: Fe male Tech Heroes role model #49 is actually a dynamic duo! Meet Astrid Pouwels and Eliene Rutten, two women advancing medical device development in the region 💪. These remarkable ladies are engineers by trade and now hold leadership roles as project managers at Demcon. Despite their similar roles today, they started their journeys from different studies and different starting points in their careers After working for startups post-graduation, both women were hired by Demcon to work in medical technology and product development. Their different backgrounds have informed their perspectives on their work and on the importance of diversity and equality in their field 🤲. Pouwels and Rutten see firsthand the impact of diversity on company culture and innovation. For them, Demcon provides an open, welcoming and diverse environment, where individuals feel valued and supported regardless of gender. It makes all the difference in individual empowerment and personal development in a STEM career. “It's not like women should be like men. It's not like we should be like male leaders. We can do it in a very authentic way that fits us. For a woman, that might be very different,” Rutten believes. Pouwels feels the same way. “It's not my method to be very overpowering in a meeting.
