Over ons

Oceans, seas, lakes and rivers offer growing possibilities in the areas of trade, food, energy and recreation. To ensure global prosperity for next generations and keep the earth habitable with an ever-increasing population, it is essential to utilise and protect these possibilities as efficiently and responsibly as possible. Damen provides unprecedented maritime solutions for this, through design, shipbuilding, ship repair and related services. We offer versatile platforms that enable our customers to be successful and that raise the standard in terms of safety, reliability, efficiency and sustainability. We want to become the most sustainable shipbuilders in the world. In the previous century, we revolutionized shipbuilding. Thanks to standardisation, we were able to supply our customers with better ships, faster. More than 90 years and 6,500 ships later, the importance of standardisation is only increasing in the light of zero-emissions and digitalisation. We do not build our ships alone, but together with an extensive network from the international maritime cluster. We firmly believe in the power of sharing. It means that we also use our craftsmanship to build platforms on production facilities that are not ours. In this way, through knowledge transfer, we not only contribute to better, safer and more eco-friendly ships, but also to sustainable local development and prosperity. We are a family owned business and stand for fellowship, craftsmanship, entrepreneurship and stewardship. Our playing field is the world. Our horizon is the long term. We firmly believe in our team, but also in the strength of the individual. Each colleague is an entrepreneur, focused on ensuring truly satisfied clients and making our contribution to a better world. In every aspect of our business the next generation is our starting point.

Collaborating for transition. Together with CMB.TECH we are developing the ASD Tug 2812 FF-H2. The hydrogen dual fuel tug offers 80 tonnes of bollard pull and meets the stringent requirements of both IMO Tier III and EU Stage V. With four hydrogen dual fuel engines, the tugs will produce minimal NOx and SOx emissions. Modular storage systems will provide safe storage of up to 763kg of pressurise hydrogen at 350 bar. While the vessels are designed to run primarily on hydrogen, their flexible design enables operation on 100% conventional diesel if hydrogen is unavailable. #Damen #Maritime #CMBTECH #Tugs

It’s a scoop! July 11th marked a milestone moment in Gorinchem when the first River Scooper was launched into the water. A straightforward solution, the River Scooper is a catamaran made of recyclable HDPE. Fitted with a scoop, the vessel collects macro litter and micro plastics as small as 5mm from the water, as it moves along. With a vacuum and filter system, the vessel removes the plastic and washes the water. #Damen #Maritime #Environment

Sustainable survey. In May this year, our Harlingen yard welcomed Global Seatrade’s cargo vessel Atlantic for a survey. The focus of the work was on boosting sustainability. Atlantic was hydrojetted and coated with silicone antifouling, and the propeller coated with Propspeed. The resultant increase in efficiency is anticipated to deliver fuel savings of between 8 and 10%. At the same time, Global Seatrade chose to overhaul the entire Controllable Pitch Propeller system – paving the way for the vessel to sail trouble-free for another 10 years. #Damen #Shiprepair #Atlantic

Helping to secure our seas. We’ve recently signed an agreement with the Royal Netherlands Navy (RNLN) and the governmental Department of Material Defence. The resulting collaboration will help to ensure the optimal condition of Dutch naval vessels and the RNLN’s readiness to respond. #Damen #Shiprepair #RNLN

I am proud to sign, on behalf of Damen Shiprepair, the LOI in Den Helder today with Admiral R.P. Tas of the Royal Netherlands Navy and Rear-Admiral(LH) Jeroen Hodes of the Department of Material Maintenance. This civil-military cooperation will safeguard the material readiness of the Royal Netherlands Navy by establishing a Maritime Maintenance Valley jointly with the Dutch maritime industry and in line with the Strategic Sector Agenda. We see this as the start of the intensification of the long-standing partnership between the Ministry of Defence and Damen in which not only the expertise and manpower of Damen in the broadest sense will continue to be available, but in which the large dock capacity in the Netherlands and in other parts of the world will contribute to keeping the material readiness of all naval vessels at the highest possible level. https://lnkd.in/ei6AiCBG

Clean crossing. On the 11th of July, students from the Technical University Delft (TU Delft) made the first ever North Sea crossing in a hydrogen powered boat. Damen is a proud sponsor of the TU Delft Hydro Motion Team. Using a self-built, lightweight carbon fibre vessel, 8 x 2.65 metres, the team left Breskens on the Dutch coast in the early morning. 12.5 hours later, they made land at Ramsgate, UK – a voyage of 169 kilometres. Congratulations to the team on this historic achievement, which demonstrates the capabilities of hydrogen as a green fuel for seaworthy vessels. #Damen #TUDelft #HydroMotionTeam

Second CSOV order for TSSM. We’ve recently signed an agreement for the order of a Commissioning Service Operations Vessel (CSOV) with Ta San Shang Marine Co., Ltd. The vessel is the second Damen CSOV currently on order from TSSM. The vessels will support the construction and maintenance of offshore wind farms in Taiwanese waters, together with TSS Pioneer, an already operational vessel. In a boost for sustainability, the new CSOVs will feature a diesel-battery hybrid power generation system and be fully prepared for methanol propulsion in the future. #Damen #CSOV #TSSM #OffshoreWind #Sustainability

The vessel is named in honor of Hendrik Hamel, a Dutch sailor who was one of the first Europeans to set foot in Korea. Hamel was born in Damen’s hometown of Gorinchem in the 17th century, where the Hamel Museum is also located, honouring Hamel’s role in the relationship between South-Korea and the Netherlands. Hamel left for the Indies with the VOC (Dutch East India Company) and spent thirteen years in Korea. Following this, he wrote a journal about his experiences – the earliest first-hand account of the country by a westerner. Hendrik Hamel is therefore seen in Korea as the person who opened up the country to the west. #Damen #Hamel #Maritime

Further elevation! We’re delighted to announce our new contract with Windcat for the construction and delivery of the sixth vessel in the Elevation Series. The Commissioning Service Operations Vessels (CSOV) apply CMB.TECH's proven dual fuel hydrogen technology to significantly reduce emissions. In addition to their environmental credentials, the vessels also offer advanced performance, drawing on the latest technology and equipment to deliver future-proof capabilities at offshore wind farms.
