Happy World Mangrove Day! 🌿 Today, we celebrate the incredible superheroes of our coastlines: Mangroves! These resilient ecosystems play a crucial role in protecting our environment and communities. Let's take a moment to appreciate the invaluable services they provide: 🌊 Coastal guardians: Mangroves act as natural barriers, shoring up coastlines, protecting people from storms, cyclones, erosion and rising sea levels. 🐟 Biodiversity hotspots: These lush habitats are teeming with life! From countless marine species to unique plants and animals, mangroves are havens of life. 🌱 Carbon capturers: Mangroves sequester vast amounts of carbon, storing in low-oxygen envrionments - also known as “blue carbon”. 🚣 Sustainable Livelihoods: Mangroves support local communities by providing fishing grounds, tourism opportunities, and other livelihoods. 📢 Let's raise awareness and take action to protect and restore these vital ecosystems. Spread the word about the importance of mangroves. 🙌 #worldmangroveday #nature #landscaperestoration #climatechange

🔥"Do you see fire as friend... or foe?" These are the words of Oral McGuire , former firefighter and leader in the Nyungar community of southwestern Australia, one of our partner landscapes, in his TED Talk filmed last July. Oral highlights that uncontrolled fire is a threat to nature - even so-called "controlled burns" can do more harm than good if they are not conducted properly. What should be a helpful measure in controlling wildfires sometimes has counter-productive effects. But the right fire, conducted using Indigenous wisdom in a way that respects and protects the land and balances nature, can restore and sustain ecosystems for generations 🌏 In this talk, he explains the concept of kaarl-ngariny (also known as cultural burning) and shows us that fire, when done right, promotes biodiversity and heals the land at the same time. As part of our fire series, we invite you to watch Oral's talk. With a lifetime of experience of attending over 2,000 bushfires, Oral reveals how his people have expertly performed kaarl-ngariny for millennia to restore the land, its spirit, and its biodiversity. 🌿🔥 At the end of his talk, he presents images of a landscape he's been regenerating with his community since 2008 - the transformation is mind-blowing! 🤯 Hear Oral’s insights and understand the remarkable difference that "cultural burning" can make. 🔗 FULL TED TALK: https://lnkd.in/g8eWe_hj #Ecosystemrestoration #Naturehealing #Biodiversity #Indigenouswisdom #Firemanagement #LandscapeRestoration

DEFORESTATION IS ALSO A PUBLIC HEALTH ISSUE ⛑️🌲 Forests are vital for our planet, and that includes our health! While we all know deforestation disrupts ecosystems, there's another reason to care: it can increase the spread of diseases from animals to humans (called zoonotic diseases). A recent article by the Financial Times explains how clearing land for agriculture has now been linked to outbreaks of zoonotic diseases around the world. Some examples include HIV, Zika, SARS, mpox, and Ebola, all of which originated in tropical forests. Even common diseases like malaria are being spread by animals – in this case, mosquitoes that once bit monkeys. According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, three-quarters of new or emerging diseases that infect humans originate in animals. When humans destroy natural habitats and infringe on biodiversity-rich forests, it becomes easier for diseases to transfer from wildlife to people. Let's protect the health of humans and animals by restoring our planet's forests🌳 🔍Find the debate question on the last slide and share your thoughts with us!

How do you learn and lead in times of disruption when you cannot rely on the experiences of the past? - Otto Scharmer, Presencing Institute This was the research question posed by Otto 20 years ago at MIT. The results of his research became the method and framework known as Theory U - a framework at the intersection of science, profound social and organiSational change, and consciousness that has been used by thousands of people worldwide to address our most pressing global challenges: climate change, food systems, inequality and exclusion, finance, healthcare, and education. We combine Theory U with the 4 Returns Framework to support partners in implementing holistic landscape restoration all over the world. The phases of Theory U in our process are as follows: 1. Co-initiation: The first phase focuses on nurturing trusting relationships among stakeholders within a landscape by listening to each other’s purpose, values, and work. 2. Co-sensing: The partnership “senses” the landscape collectively, understanding its potential, opportunities for change, and challenges. 3. Co-strategising: Stakeholders build on their shared understanding of the system, to determine their roles within it. Strategic plans are developed. 4. Co-creating: Small teams of stakeholders develop examples of integrated solutions based on the local context and co-creating a portfolio of locally adapted solutions with the potential to scale. 5. Co-evolving: This step is aimed at finding long-term funding, and scaling, replicating, and integrating prototypes and innovations into the existing landscape. 🗯️ What's your take on the Theory U? Share your thoughts in the comments below!⬇️ #Community #Collaboration #4Returns #Holisticthinking

To face down the disasters we face, we need more feminine leadership! 🤸🏽♀️🧠 Our knowledge and learning manager, Zlatina Tsvetkova has written a thoughtful piece on why we need feminine leadership to change the system! 📢 Zlatina explains the journey of Namita Mishra, a community mobiliser in the Kabirdham landscape in India, from learning to ride a motorbike 🏍️ to prove a point to the men in her community, to leading a programme at the Foundation For Ecological Security (FES) in India 🇮🇳, where she’s finding ways to involve local women in land stewardship. 🫱🏽🫲🏼 Women manage on average 80% of the land and processes related to producing food for the family and community. This means they possess invaluable knowledge and a holistic approach essential for sustainable land stewardship. Yet, they often lack acess to land ownership or decision-making powers. Now, more than ever, we need a holistic, relational, value-based approach to prevent disaster 👉 Read the full story: https://ow.ly/JfRr50SF7mK #FeminineLeadership #SustainableFuture #GenderEquality #LandRestoration #EmpowerWomen

Bringing people together to create long-term change 🙏 The essence of the 4 Returns Framework is to offer a common language that unites diverse stakeholders - often with conflicting needs - to co-create and implement a practical, long-term vision for their landscape. Throughout the co-visioning process, the 4 Returns Framework guides stakeholders into broadening their understanding of what a landscape can offer. The approach emphasises collaboration and innovation, making sure that every voice is heard and every potential explored. The 4 Returns is also crucial for moving beyond tunnel vision around financial profit. When we take that step, we can see that restoring a landscape not only realises long-term community income, but it also regenerates biodiversity, and brings back jobs and education, giving people hope for the future. Head to our website to learn more about the 4 Returns 👉
