After the events of the past days, it's a good time to remind ourselves that out of darkness can come light. The next four years can spark a more determined and courageous resistance than ever before. Collaboration, community and resilience will continue to impulse us toward the future that everyone deserves, even in the most difficult of circumstances. We at EIT Climate-KIC understand that action locally, in our cities and our regions, is more critical than ever. And we are here to work. We are ready to roll up our sleeves and work collaboratively to make systems change happen in the very places were we live and work. #ClimateAction #ClimateChange #SystemsInnovationNow

Over ons
EIT Climate-KIC is Europe’s leading climate innovation agency and community, supporting cities, regions, countries and industries to bridge the gap between climate commitments and current reality. EIT Climate-KIC was established in 2010 and is predominately funded by the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), a body of the European Union. As a Knowledge and Innovation Community (KIC), it brings together partners from business, academia, the public and non-profit sectors to create networks of expertise, through which innovative products, services and systems are developed, brought to market and scaled-up for impact. #SystemsChangeNow

🔋 EIT Climate-KIC portfolio company Naked Energy Ltd is bringing solar energy to one of the UK’s most iconic institutions: the British Library. The upcoming installation will help the Library reduce emissions, support its climate goals, and set a powerful example for the public sector. Naked Energy’s innovative solar technology, which combines heat and electricity generation, will also help maintain the specific conditions needed to preserve the Library’s national collection. As CEO Christophe Williams shares, “We hope that this project can serve as a catalyst to inspire others in the public sector to join the energy transition and move away from fossil fuels once and for all.” Learn more 👉 https://bit.ly/40vNQ82 #ClimateEntrepreneurship

🎙️ The latest episode of our podcast, How Could We?, features Daniel Zimmer from EIT Climate-KIC, who just returned from COP16, the UN Biodiversity Summit in Colombia! In this episode, we discuss: 🟢 The urgent need for finance for biodiversity: Daniel explains that the estimated $700 billion needed for biodiversity conservation by 2030 must reach local communities, as only 10-20% of current funding makes an impact on the ground. 🟢 The agriculture vs. conservation tension: With rising agricultural demands – especially driven by increasing meat consumption, its impact on ecosystems intensifies. We discuss how to address this critical challenge. 🟢 The importance to design equitable value chains, to ensure that local communities receive a fair share of the benefits derived from their landscapes. 🎧 Listen now on: Spotify: https://spoti.fi/4fwLk5M Apple Podcasts: https://apple.co/3AEWBls Amazon Music: https://amzn.to/4fzzFD2 YouTube: https://bit.ly/3UE11zZ or wherever you get your podcasts. Slovenia's cities — Ljubljana, Kranj, and Velenje — are forging ahead in the global race toward climate neutrality! 🚀 As part of the EIT Climate-KIC-led NetZeroCitiesEU initiative, these three cities have partnered under the Pilot Cities Programme to tackle urgent environmental challenges through innovation and collaboration. Each city is taking charge of a critical area: 🌱 Ljubljana is developing solutions to harness excess energy for district heating. 🚲 Kranj is pioneering sustainable mobility with a Mobility as a Service (MaaS) platform. 🔋 Velenje is focusing on energy retrofitting and renewable energy adoption. Through these ambitious projects, Slovenia is showing that even small nations can lead the way in the transition to a greener world. On #WorldCitiesDay, we celebrate the partnership between Climate-KIC Foundation - the not-for-profit arm of EIT Climate-KIC - and Philea - Philanthropy Europe Association. The two organisations are dedicated to driving systemic change for the climate crisis, rooted in justice, fairness, and inclusivity. To launch this partnership, we’re introducing 'Philanthropy Talks: A Journey towards Climate-Neutral European Cities through Imagination, New Skills, and New Economies' — a webinar series inviting foundations, cities, and philanthropic leaders to reflect on how these areas can support a just transition to climate neutrality in cities. Kirsten Dunlop, CEO of Climate-KIC, says: “The climate crisis requires new levels of collaboration, innovation, and financial mobilisation to create the scale of change we need. This partnership and webinar series bring together the power of philanthropy and innovation to drive impactful climate solutions for cities across Europe. The transition to climate-neutral cities requires technical and financial support but above all systemic approaches to innovation, community-driven solutions and creativity—this is where partnership with philanthropy can be transformative.” https://lnkd.in/eXVp9R7F

🌿 The COP16 Colombia on Biological Diversity is wrapping up in Cali. Here are some insights gathered from the Climate-KIC Community who was present at the Conference: 🔹Many climate policies lean heavily on ecosystems to simply absorb the climate shocks, but rarely integrate approaches that can actually support biodiversity on the long-term. 🔹Community-led initiatives from Indigenous communities are being showcased and recognised for their contribution in protecting and restoring ecosystems. 🔹A significant focus is ecological connectivity—the essential network of corridors that allow species to migrate and habitats to interact. COP16 looks into good practices and how ecological connectivity can support both human and environmental health. 🔹There is a struggle to bridge large-scale finance to biodiversity goals, particularly for low-income countries. Countries from the Global South are asking for a shift in the current financial models to fund directly essential ecosystems services. Get more insights from COP16! 🎙️ How Could We? Mobilise global action for Biodiversity at COP16 In our latest episode of How Could We?, we’re live from Cali, Colombia, where the UN Biodiversity Summit (COP16) is bringing global leaders together to address biodiversity conservation. Our guest, Sebastián Bustamante González from EIT Climate-KIC, shares insights into what’s unfolding at COP16, the biggest biodiversity COP to date. We ask: What will it take to bridge the gap between the commitments of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework and actual implementation? How can innovative funding models, like Climate SAFE, help support startups focused on climate and conservation? What is the space we need to make for communities in our efforts to safeguard the planet’s ecosystems? 🌽 3 innovators shaping the future of food Across Europe, many innovative projects are rethinking how we produce, consume and waste food. In our #FoodFutures campaign, we’re showcasing real-world examples of food innovation to demonstrate what systemic change looks like on the ground. The EIT Community New European Bauhaus (NEB) – led by EIT Climate-KIC – supports a range of projects currently reimagining the future of food. 👉 Swipe through our carousel to learn about three pioneering examples: 🍊 Remonda: Turning orange peels into biodegradable plastic alternatives – tackling food waste and pollution. 🍣 Bluana Foods: Developing plant-based alternatives to seafood – helping to reduce overfishing and providing sustainable options for vegans and flexitarians. 🍄 MycoLutions: Using fungal mycelium to upcycle agricultural waste into biodegradable materials for construction – driving innovation in sustainable building. ➡️ Read more examples of how we’re helping to accelerate the shift toward a healthier, more resilient food system at: www.climate-kic.org #EITCommunityNEB
