🤝We must reinforce #Multilateralism and international cooperation to drive Climate Action in Food Systems. 🌱The only way overcome the climate crisis and secure a #JustTransition is through mutual cooperation, in the context of common, but differentiated responsabilities and respective capabilities. #COP29 #Baku

If you’re not in it, you can’t win it. That is why Clim-Eat, not in spite of our critical stance on climate diplomacy but precisely because of it, will organize and attend events at COP29 Azerbaijan. This year, one of our key contributions is to underscore areas where progress is both necessary and possible. By engaging directly within the system, we aim to turn challenges into opportunities, maximizing our influence to guide meaningful change. At COP29, Clim-Eat, in collaboration with the Dutch Ministerie van Landbouw, Visserij, Voedselzekerheid en Natuur, Ministerie van Buitenlandse Zaken, Wageningen University & Research, the Southern African Confederation of Agricultural Unions (SACAU), AgriCord, and the Brazilian Ministerio da Agricultura, will organize an official side event dedicated to our most pressing question: ↳'𝐻𝑜𝑤 𝑐𝑎𝑛 𝑡ℎ𝑒 UN Climate Change 𝑓𝑟𝑎𝑚𝑒𝑤𝑜𝑟𝑘 𝑠𝑢𝑝𝑝𝑜𝑟𝑡 𝑎𝑚𝑏𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑢𝑠 𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑖𝑛 𝑓𝑜𝑜𝑑 𝑠𝑦𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑚𝑠 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑎𝑔𝑟𝑖𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑒?' Join us at Side Event 8 at 15:00 local time. In the coming days, we will share our other focus areas for this year's event.

Remember, remember, the 5th of November? 3 years ago, Clim-Eat was born in Glasgow at COP26 - UN Climate Change Conference 🙌🏾 It has been an incredible journey since then, ups and downs, successes and failures, tensions and peace, but above all it has been a journey with incredible people who have been part of this journey, Thank You 🙏🏾 Sharing some glimpses from this journey, but there are of course many more, as each day in this start up journey is filled with unique experiences. I will reflect and share some lessons in time, but meanwhile a huge thanks to all those who have supported us and helped us get this far 🙏🏾 There is still a long way to go, and as they say, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together", we want to go far and fast, so counting on all of you to make this happen 💪🏾

Suit on? Laptop charged? High-level language ready to go? With COP29 just around the corner, we're expecting a lot of lofty language from delegates in Azerbaijan. Clim-Eat's latest film aims to bring climate change adaptation down to earth a bit, giving a glimpse of how farmers are already taking action and what might happen in the future. Want to learn more about Clim-Eat's work in Kenya? 👉 https://lnkd.in/eaitv5e2 Special thanks to Wiebe Smit and Kevin Gitau Ng'ang'a for wonderful storytelling and prioritising action at the local level.

Green ammonia in Africa? It was great to take time out from the soil health pilot development in Malawi to briefly meet with Bruno Partridge of C’Nergy Africa LTD. Such exciting development in the green ammonia business is being planned for Malawi. Bruno learnt the tricks of the nitrogen industry in Australia and has now returned to Malawi with big visions – that could transform the fertiliser industry through sun, water and air. He also recognises that to be truly green, the ultimate aim is to link with Malawi’s homegrown fertiliser developments, where inorganic-organic mixtures are making huge inroads for smallholder farmers. So, soil health initiatives linking with a revolutionised fertiliser supply chain? Leanne Zeppenfeldt Senni Alho Clim-Eat Dr Dhanush Dinesh Annebelle Rombach Jacob Nyirongo

A new article now out in Frontiers in Sustainable Food Systems, co-authored by Leanne Zeppenfeldt | Dr Dhanush Dinesh | Sietze Vellema explores an often divisive topic, the role of private sector led innovation in food systems, with a paradox lens 🔍 Check out Leanne's summary and the paradoxes identified👇🏾 The paper is available freely at 👉🏾 https://lnkd.in/e8a-eSvh

The role of the established private sector firms in food systems transformation can be a divisive topic. Are they driving progress, holding it back, or both? 🤔 Often, the conversation ends in a stalemate—either incumbent firms are seen as the source of all problems or as the innovators who will save us. But how can we truly understand their role in food systems innovation? In my latest paper, co-authored with Dr Dhanush Dinesh and Sietze Vellema, we use a paradox lens to explore how incumbent firms align their innovation strategies with climate goals. The paper identifies 5 key paradoxes these firms must navigate, showing that a paradoxical both/and approach (instead of an either/or framing) can be valuable in guiding their innovation efforts—and how others engage with them. I'll be sharing more insights in the days to come, but if you can't wait, the link to the paper is in the comments 👇

𝗣𝗵𝗗 𝗹𝗼𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴... 🔃 I’m thrilled to officially start my PhD journey at Wageningen University & Research, as part of the CPT Wageningen University chairgroup! As an external PhD candidate, I’ll be exploring the dynamics of change and inertia in food systems through various theoretical lenses. I’m especially excited to combine this research with my work at Clim-Eat, where I get to bridge science, policy, and practice. Huge thanks to Dr Dhanush Dinesh and Sietze Vellema for their support in getting to this point—this is just the beginning! Stay tuned for more updates!
