🔊 Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) a growing global health threat. 🔊 New Global Research on Antimicrobial Resistance (GRAM) estimates from Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, University of Oxford, Wellcome Trust, and Fleming Fund Services suggest more than a million lives have been lost each year since 1990, and without urgent #ActionOnAMR, antimicrobial resistance will account for three deaths every minute between 2025 and 2050. Data has a critical role to play in the global fight against AMR. Yesterday, the #GRAM Project led by Dr. Christopher J.L. British Embassy The Hague is looking for a new HR and Protocol Officer to strengthen team UKinNL!   The successful candidate will be part of a small team that supports the whole of the UK in The Netherlands (UKinNL) network in the delivery of central HR and Protocol policy.    This role will allow for partnership and collaboration with staff from across the network who are based in the Embassy, International Organisations, or elsewhere in-country. Yesterday our International Law Team hosted the third iteration of its International Justice Seminar Series in collaboration with the Trust Fund for Victims at the ICC on “Understanding Ongwen – the ICC’s Landmark Reparations Order and its Impact on Victims of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence.” Reparations form a vital part of the International Criminal Court’s framework for delivering justice to the victims and survivors of international crimes. On 28 February 2024, Trial Chamber IX delivered its highest reparations order of €52,429,000 to a record estimated number of 49,772 victims following Dominic Ongwen’s conviction in December 2022 for 61 counts of crimes against humanity and war crimes committed in Uganda between 2002-2005 – including the first ever ICC convictions for forced marriage and forced pregnancies. With thanks again to our outstanding panellists and speakers for providing cross-cutting insights from the TFV, the ICC, and civil society on the legal and practical aspects of adjudicating and implementing the reparations order. The strong discussions during the Q&A sessions only underline the importance of this topic and we hope contributed to increasing understanding of how ICC reparations meaningfully address harm suffered, particularly for victims and survivors of sexual and gender-based violence.

This week, the Lord Mayor of the City of London, Michael Mainelli visited the Netherlands. Representing the UK’s financial and professional services sector, the Lord Mayor's visit focused on further strengthening the already close economic ties between the Netherlands and the UK, and promoting London as a global finance hub, as well as learning more about the Dutch economic and financial climate. Engagements included NBCC, European Space Agency - ESA, ING, and the Ministerie van Infrastructuur en Waterstaat.   Both the UK and the Netherlands have strong, innovative, and prosperous economies, and both are home to a thriving share trading venue.
