Are you ready to see the winners of our latest BioBlitz? 🐸 📸 Each partner meeting, our team carries on the tradition of a mini BioBlitz to document the range of species living in our host city. Last week in Växjö kommun we had a close competition, with winners in 3 categories: 🐝 Lies Matthys for the most bee-utiful photo 🕸 Christine Huibers - van de Velde for the most unexpected biodiversity find 🔎 Karlotta-Franziska Seitz for the best camouflage BioBlitzes offer an exciting opportunity to get immersed in our local ecosystems and discover the vast world of biodiversity living right under our noses. We're looking forward to continuing this tradition in our next meeting! #BiodiverseCities #UrbanGreening #PrivateSpaces #DesignThinking #SustainableCities #CommunityEngagement #GreenInfrastructure #ProjectImpact #Växjö Interreg North Sea Programme Växjö kommun Bergen kommune Aeres University of Applied Science Almere Aarhus University University of Bremen Open Kaart | co-creatie van de leefomgeving Het Vogelnest Bremer Umwelt Beratung Aeres University of Applied Science Almere Dana Huibers Ellen Kelder Laurien Albeda Ifor Schrauwen Malena Heinrup Sofia Gustavsson Christof Voßeler Pil Pedersen Sara Iversen Michael Flitner Susanna Gionfra María Nuñez Rodríguez Valérie AMIS Nelly Gillet Patrick Limpens Gideon Spanjar Pernille Villesen Karen Tvedt Marianne Nieuwjaer Hugo VOISVENEL Cédric Devigne Juliette Plouvin Amélie Billoir Lies Kuppens

🌿 🐞 Wrapping up an incredible three days in Växjö! 🐝 🌲 On our final day of the Biodiverse Cities partner meeting, we explored how to unlock the potential of private spaces for urban greening. Dana Huibers of Gemeente Dordrecht shared the innovative local initiatives that have successfully inspired the city's private landowners to green their properties, offering valuable takeaways that cities everywhere can replicate. Dana also introduced us to design thinking in the private greening context in three steps: 💭 Empathise - who are we doing this for, and what are they really thinking? 📝 Define - what are the details of the challenges? 💡 Ideate - how could we offer valuable, impactful solutions? We continued with a capitalisation workshop to ensure that the impacts of our work extend beyond the life of this project, leaving a lasting legacy for urban sustainability. We ended on a high note with a tour of the House of Emigrants, immersing ourselves in the fascinating history of the Småland region and how it’s shaped Växjö today. A huge thank you to our amazing hosts, Sofia Gustavsson and Malena Heinrup! #BiodiverseCities #UrbanGreening #PrivateSpaces #DesignThinking #SustainableCities #CommunityEngagement #GreenInfrastructure #ProjectImpact #Växjö Interreg North Sea Programme Växjö kommun Bergen kommune Aeres University of Applied Science Almere Aarhus University University of Bremen Open Kaart | co-creatie van de leefomgeving Het Vogelnest Bremer Umwelt Beratung Aeres University of Applied Science Almere Dana Huibers Ellen Kelder Laurien Albeda Ifor Schrauwen Malena Heinrup Sofia Gustavsson Christof Voßeler Pil Pedersen Sara Iversen Michael Flitner Susanna Gionfra María Nuñez Rodríguez Valérie AMIS Nelly Gillet Karlotta-Franziska Seitz Patrick Limpens Gideon Spanjar Pernille Villesen Karen Tvedt Marianne Nieuwjaer Hugo VOISVENEL Cédric Devigne Juliette Plouvin Amélie Billoir Christine Huibers - van de Velde

📍 🌱 It’s site visit day at our Biodiverse Cities partner meeting in Växjö kommun! We kicked off the day with cities exchanging their successes and failures on the topic of greening in a dynamic Pecha Kucha format. Two key takeaways: 🤸♀️ Local branding can make green projects more relatable and impactful. 💬 Tapping into and using an existing network or platform can significantly widen your community reach. We then had the pleasure of hearing from Simon Jonegård, a forest owner and geographer, who shared the intricacies of Swedish Forestry and the benefits of approaching restoration with a deep understanding of land history. In the afternoon, we looked through a variety of ecosystem services lenses—ecological, economic, historical, and recreational—while exploring Växjö’s pilot projects: 🏫 Gemla Preschool, where the team is working with the community and school to co-create an outdoor space that weaves in nature throughout. 💧 The Telestadhöjden wetland, where new infrastructure will be added to protect species while making the natural space more accessible to the community. Thank you to our hosts and guides for giving us a close-up tour of Växjö’s biodiversity efforts! #BiodiverseCities #UrbanGreening #SustainableForestry #EcosystemServices #CommunityEngagement Interreg North Sea Programme Växjö kommun Bergen kommune Aeres University of Applied Science Almere Aarhus University University of Bremen Open Kaart | co-creatie van de leefomgeving Het Vogelnest Bremer Umwelt Beratung Aeres University of Applied Science Almere Dana Huibers Ellen Kelder Laurien Albeda Ifor Schrauwen Malena Heinrup Sofia Gustavsson Christof Voßeler Pil Pedersen Sara Iversen Michael Flitner Susanna Gionfra María Nuñez Rodríguez Valérie AMIS Nelly Gillet Karlotta-Franziska Seitz Patrick Limpens Gideon Spanjar Pernille Villesen Karen Tvedt Marianne Nieuwjaer Hugo VOISVENEL Cédric Devigne Juliette Plouvin Amélie Billoir Christine Huibers - van de Velde

🌳 🤝 Our Biodiverse Cities team is thrilled to be in Växjö kommun for our 5th partner meeting! The first day kicked off with a warm welcome from Cheryl Jones Fur, Deputy Chair of Urban Planning and Infrastructure at Växjö Municipal Council, who walked us through Växjö's history of sustainability and greening. Our hosts Sofia Gustavsson and Malena Heinrup followed up with an introduction to the city’s priorities and recent projects. We then reflected on our experience in the project up until this halfway point before diving into two transnational peer learning sessions. First, Sofia and Malena led a session on mainstreaming biodiversity in city decision-making, highlighting the value of comparing urban planning processes across cities. Next, Open Kaart | co-creatie van de leefomgeving and ´t Staartje guided us through mapping community-driven spatial experimentation, showing just how complex these community networks can be. We wrapped up with a tour of Växjö’s vibrant summer street, a co-created, temporary green space designed in collaboration with local schools. A big thank you to our hosts at Växjö and all who contributed the sessions! #BiodiverseCities #UrbanPlanning #SustainableCities #CommunityCollaboration #NatureBasedSolutions Interreg North Sea Programme Växjö kommun Bergen kommune Aeres University of Applied Science Almere Aarhus University University of Bremen Open Kaart | co-creatie van de leefomgeving Het Vogelnest Bremer Umwelt Beratung Aeres University of Applied Science Almere Dana Huibers Ellen Kelder Laurien Albeda Ifor Schrauwen Malena Heinrup Sofia Gustavsson Christof Voßeler Pil Pedersen Sara Iversen Michael Flitner Susanna Gionfra María Nuñez Rodríguez Valérie AMIS Nelly Gillet Karlotta-Franziska Seitz Patrick Limpens Gideon Spanjar Pernille Villesen Karen Tvedt Marianne Nieuwjaer Hugo VOISVENEL Cédric Devigne Juliette Plouvin Amélie Billoir Christine Huibers - van de Velde
