Together with TotalEnergies and Pon we won the competition for a new Mobility Hub near the Olympic Stadion of Amsterdam! Amsterdam is converting all its 60 gas stations into sustainable hubs to become emission-free by 2030. And we get to design the very first one! Located at Stadionplein in Amsterdam Zuid, E-lympic will be the Mobility Hub of the future.   E-lympic will be a modern hub with all the amenities for electric shared transportation, such as fast chargers, charging points for vessels, and other services like restaurants and workspaces.   We aim to create more than just a functional location for mobility. E-lympic will be a showcase for the city, a symbol of innovation, sustainability, and connection. Situated near the Olympic Stadium, we honor the rich heritage by incorporating architectural features from the surrounding area into our design. E-lympic will have a modular setup, and through the responsible use of sustainable materials, the building will be easily adapted to meet future needs.   In collaboration with TotalEnergies, Pon, City of Amsterdam, local residents, and businesses, we will shape E-lympic over the coming months. Update from Schiphol Airport! Our expansion and renovation project for Lounge 1 is in full swing. In order to further improve the passenger experience at Schiphol we’re adapting passenger routing and expanding facilities such as shops and seating areas. A significant milestone has been reached as we have added part of the existing crew center to the lounge. As of now, passengers can explore this newly opened area, complete with new shops and sanitary facilities.   But we're not stopping here! The entire project is being executed in five phases, and we are working diligently on the next stages to complete the transformation of the lounge. Rest assured, throughout the entire renovation process, Lounge 1 will remain open and fully accessible to travelers.   Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to enhance your experience at Schiphol Airport! Presenting The District West Lighthouse office, featuring a stunning fully wooden structure. We infused new life into this Sloterdijk office tower with a groundbreaking wooden extension. “This is not a renovation, but a real transformation.” (Daniel Jongtien — architect, partner) DW02 Lighthouse, the first development in District West, has been completed, setting the stage for the area's future redevelopment. Benthem Crouwel Architects created the Masterplan for the large-scale transformation of this highly accessible area, located near the highway and just a stone's throw from the station.   The existing high-rise received a remarkable upgrade, now boasting a spacious 15,700 m² of high-quality office space. We designed this building as the first step in the development of District West. Created for the new way of working: maximum daylight, open office floors, and tangibly sustainable with a distinctive wooden structure. An exciting moment on the Afsluitdijk last week! Six colossal glass domes, each weighing 30 tons and standing 4 meters high, were placed over the previously installed mega pumps on the Afsluitdijk. In contrast to the complex technologies embedded in the pumping station, we designed the domes in an abstract and simple manner, to protect the pumps and showcase the advanced technology within. Architect and partner Daniel Jongtien: “The strength and essence of the design lie in minimizing and abstracting the architecture to a spectacular simplicity, which enhances the monumental character of the Afsluitdijk and the experience of its primary function.” Crafted from twelve curved glass panels, these transparent domes can be lifted off for maintenance and are built to withstand the Wadden Sea's powerful waves. Since 2018, we have been part of the Levvel design team, working on a major renovation to strengthen the flood protection of the Afsluitdijk. The new pumping station, with these impressive domes, can discharge 275,000 liters of water per second, safeguarding the Netherlands from rising waters. At Schiphol Airport, we are currently building ‘Checkpoint 90’, a circular pilot building sourced through Urban Mining. The Building Circularity Index (BCI) scores an impressive 70%!: meaning 70% of the construction consists of repurposed materials from the demolition of office buildings and cargo buildings at Schiphol, including steel structures, ceilings, doors, lighting, interior elements and more.   Checkpoint 90 is fully energy neutral, boasting an Energy Label A and bifacial translucent solar panels that also serve as waterproof roofing. Additionally, the building incorporates bio-based materials, is fully demountable, and is disconnected from the gas grid. A remarkable project and an important step towards a zero waste, and sustainable future!
