It's a wrap! RoboCup 2024 - Eindhoven came and went and what a pleasure it was to take part in it! Best of all, Eindhoven University of Technology's team Tech United became robot soccer world champions for the 8th time in the Middle Sized League! 🏆 🎉 Meeting and chatting to roboticists from all over the world gives us the inspiration and motivation to keep building the robots of tomorrow. Events like Robocup help bring robotics into the public eye, creating the awareness and intrigue needed to bring robotics into the main stream. 🤖 Thanks to all who visited our booth and raced our Origin One, we had so much fun interacting with each and every one of you! RoboCup 2024 - Eindhoven has officially started! Yesterday, we had the honor of welcoming 14 RoboCup trustees at Avular. Each of them is at the forefront of robotics research and has played a significant role in the foundation and further growth of RoboCup over the last few decades. 🤖 The evening featured insightful discussions about the future of robotics led by our technical lead Joris. Adapt the robot to the environment, or the environment to the robot? And to what extent? Then, Maarten Steinbuch delivered an inspiring talk emphasizing the importance of researchers taking a leading role in getting robots into the actual world. His words reminded us of the great inspiration we had from our university, and how universities worldwide can, and should, add value by encouraging entrepreneurship. The evening was complemented by delicious food provided by El Puente, creating a memorable start to RoboCup. Last Friday we wrapped up Q2 with a lovely Rooftop BBQ. 🌇 Our Scalogno team outdid themselves with the delicious food, and the Onion committee did a great job organizing everything. Riley and Bram brought the heat with their homemade hot sauces, offering four levels of spiciness! 🌶️   Even though it was a bit cloudy, the tasty food, drinks, and good company kept our spirits high. It was a wonderful way to officially end the quarter and enjoy some well-deserved relaxation.   Big thanks to everyone who helped make this event happen. And so another quarter came and went, time flies when you're building robots! 🤖 We kicked off Q3 in classic Avular fashion, with a team day decicated to expanding our knowledge and improving our processes. After the general updates Fenna Zandvliet gave us a very insightful presentation on the intricacies of LinkedIn, thank you for coming by! The afternoon marked the start of our very first Avular hackathon! Colleagues could submit their ideas and lobby for people to join their teams, from implementing voice-commands on the Origin to testing the requirements of a heavy-duty Vertex (see image 🍻). The best part of these days is the promotion of cross-team collaboration and knowledge-sharing, as Avular continues to grow these moments to connect will become increasingly important. The Origin One has reached Gazebo! 🧭   The open-source, virtual simulation tool allows you to iterate fast on new physical designs, in realistic environments, with high fidelity sensor streams.
