I'm delighted that after years of hard work, the first (open access) paper of my PhD is published in the Journal of Catalysis: "Preparing uniform supported Pd-Ni catalysts with citrate-assisted impregnation" - ScienceDirect. https://lnkd.in/e2fx8Z24🔬 We show that an impregnation strategy with citric acid produces uniform Pd-Ni nanoparticles. Crucially, the Pd precursor affects the final nanoparticles formed (see the attached EDX elemental maps); Pd(OAc)2 produces separate Pd and Ni particles whereas mixed Pd-Ni nanoparticles are formed with Pd(NH3)4(NO3)2. The activity of these catalysts for CO2 hydrogenation is strongly dependent on this Pd-Ni intimacy. These findings stress the importance of rational catalyst preparation and characterization. As this was truly a team effort, I thank Charles Fabrie, Hans Meeldijk and George Tierney PhD for their help in the experiments and analysis. And I thank Jessi van der Hoeven, Peter van den Brink, Krijn de Jong and Petra de Jongh for their expertise and feedback. Nienke Visser and Laura Barberis are thanked for their assistance in the CO2 hydrogenation experiments.
