For too long, the fields of water, energy and food were seen as separate entities, working in silos in terms of policy and regulation, requiring different solutions to their own specific problems. This way of thinking has been changing, however, as it becomes apparent that these huge sectors are inter-related and impact on each other, along with many other facets of the modern world. In this essential guide, we explore the basis of the water-energy nexus, look at some of the challenges and solutions from Google, Apple, Microsoft, Diageo, Ocean Oasis , Oneka Technologies, Anglian Water Services, Veolia Water Technologies, Capture6 and more. And find out why agriculture and eco-systems are essential components of the nexus. https://lnkd.in/ewFAASc4

Decarbonisation targets in North America are driving utilities in the region to investigate heat recovery projects. With King County, Seattle, working to get a system running by 2025, and False Creek Neighbour Energy Utility in Vancouver expanding its already existing project, it is clear that this lesser-known resource recovery method is beginning to spread across the continent. The state of New York has also mandated the use of thermal energy networks, including heat recovery retrofit projects. A collaboration between Microsoft and UK utility Anglian Water Services has created the world’s first digital twin of a chalk stream. The digital twin will help the utility respond to river quality issues and meet the needs of its customers, not just in terms of providing clean drinking water, but also in terms of the social and environmental prosperity a clean river brings to the region. Other partners include: Norfolk Rivers Trust, Wessex Water, Ofwat, Avanade; Severn Trent and National Trust.
