Our colleague Javier Garcia will be traveling to #Weftec next week, don’t miss the chance to ask him about our unique DACS® high-rate carried-based anaerobic system! #wastewater #water #sustainability #biogas #anaerobic
Over ons
Sharing Wastewater Solutions Aqana is a company in wastewater treatment. We developed in the last 8 years an anaerobic treatment technology. This technology is based on biomass on carrier. An anaerobic process is a beautiful and simple natural occurrence. With the absence of oxygen waste is converted to biogas and only a small amount of sludge. But as in most cases, a human synthesis of a natural process ends up very complicated. Aqana takes advantage of the bacterial property to attach to surfaces. The anaerobic bacteria are grown on a floating carrier. With this Aqana makes the difference. By using a floating carrier bed the reactor design is that simple that it fits in any tank. Three concepts are the product of the research and collaboration with launching customers.

Our colleagues have been busy inspecting the equipment to be sent to a leading beverage manufacturer in Africa for an Effluent Reclamation Plant. In the pictures below you can see the CIP unit, two-step Reverse Osmosis skid, several pump skids and a filtrate storage tank. Is it only us or you also enjoy when the welds are immaculate 😎 ? Contact us if you want to recover your effluent and minimize the water consumption of your factory 💧 . #wastewater #sustainability #reclamation #beverage

Today, on the💡Did you know that’ series: Did you know that granular-sludge-based systems have a narrow operational window, heavily affected by influent fluctuations? Anaerobic biomass granulation is a complex process that involves biological, chemical and physical processes. Incoming fluctuations in the organic load could have an impact on the quality of the biomass granules, leading to biomass loss, representing a quantitative operational expenditure for some operators. Total Suspended Solids and pH fluctuations can have the same effect when outside of the operational window. Another good example of anaerobic biomass granulation challenger is Chloride concentration, as it is well documented that anaerobic granules, when exposed to high salinity become weak and disintegrate, causing wash-out, operational problems and decreasing process performance. Please contact us if you want to know how the robust carrier-based DACS® reactor can help you with biomass washout in your traditional granular-sludge based system. #wastewater #anaerobic #biogas #sustainability

Today, on the ‘📸What are our employees up to’ series, we have Arjen Booi, that works as Mechanical Engineer in Aqana for more than 8 years already. Arjen: What’s going with me…. well, the main thing on my mind right now is the fact that my girlfriend and I are expecting our first baby. This means of course getting ready for what’s to come but also taking some time to do the things we really enjoy being together such as visiting one of the national parks here in the north of The Netherlands. The Wadden Sea is a shallow body of water between mainland and the Frisian Islands. High in Biodiversity and an important area for breeding and migrating birds, being UNESCO heritage since 2014. I grew up on the Wadden Coast further down, so coming here always feels a bit like home. After a nice relaxing weekend, I was ready to get to work. Currently my days are mostly busy with a nice new project in South Africa. We have a deadline for deliverables, which meant updating the P&iD’s and PFD and the most fun part, detailed drawings of the DACS® and all of its internals. Hope you enjoyed the small glimpse in the life of a Mechanical Engineer at Aqana . #wastewater #water #biogas #teambuilding #sustainability #anaerobic

📢 Two new publication series are born today: - ‘💡Did you know that’ series , where we will share small knowledge pills regarding wastewater treatment & effluent reclamation. - ‘📸What are our employees up to’ series, a window to our team members daily life (disclaimer, selfies might be employed!). Both series will be published frequently, starting right now with the first ‘Did you know that’ post. Stay tunned for more! Today, on the ‘Did you know that’ series; Did you know that citrus processing effluents contain low concentrations of essential oils (CPOs) which can inhibit biological processes on the wastewater treatment plant if not controlled? Citrus processing factories extract the essential oils from the peels of the fruits for it's use in the food and beverage industry but also in the fragrance and home care sector where are becoming increasingly popular. Limonene is an essential oil that can be found in citrus, and some of it ends up in the effluent of the processing plants in concentrations that can be as high as 200 mg/L or more. Removal of Limonene prior the anaerobic treatment step is necessary for a stable performance of the system, and a robust anaerobic system is key for a long-term operation of the plant. Please contact us if you want to know how the DACS® reactor can help you with your citrus effluent thanks to its carrier-based configuration. #wastewater #sustainability #biogas #anaerobic #citrus #food #beverage #juice

Behold the three musketeers taking care of business 😄! We are proud of being part of this project together with RiverRidge and Clinty Chemicals Limited, displaying a novel process for producing biogas and reclaiming water on a organic waste recycling plant. Does it get greener than that ♻? #biogas #wastewater #water #sustainability #anaerobic #recycle #reuse #circularity
Jonathan Murray our Technical Manager pictured here with Mark McCoy of RiverRidge and Sarahí García Villa from Aqana handing over the 'DACS' Anaerobic Wastewater pilot plant for an extensive study over the course of the next four months. Clinty have designed a process in which they will be able to replicate the wastewater being produced in the current RiverRidge washplant and feed it continuously through the downflow anaerobic carrier system to convert the organic material in the wastewater into biogas. This will ultimately assist RiverRidge in their informed design calculations as they continue to develop their circular waste vision. Many thanks to all the team in the commissioning of this plant in a very restricted timeline. We are go for launch! #highrateAD #anaerobictreatment #wastewater #biogas #biomethane

Congratulations ICE Pharma from the Aqana team. We are proud to be part of this wonderfull project!
We are pleased to announce that yesterday marked the inauguration of our new J Department and Waste Water Treatment Plant at our Basaluzzo site, which will support the growth of our business in the coming years. This initiative aims to increase the production capacity of our plant converting an existing warehouse and installing advanced equipment, ensuring sustained growth and increased efficiency. We have installed 9 reactors (in HC and GL stainless steel) and 6 filter dryers. Our production focus obviously includes UDCA, but the new plant will allow us to expand our production capacity to include specialties such as glycocholic acid, dehydrocholic acid, Taurine, and to validate new sources for UDCA. The advantages of the new Department J include: • Greater production flexibility. • Creation of new jobs. • Technological improvements compared to the current standard. Regarding the Purification Plant, it features an extremely compact configuration thanks to innovative purification technology. This also allows for the energy recovery of pollutants for steam generation, thus reducing methane consumption from fossil sources. We are excited about the opportunities and growth this new development will bring to our company. We would like to thank you for your continuous support and dedication

This week our process engineering team has been busy commissioning two breweries in very different, but both beautiful locations: the black forest region of Germany i) and the Aegean Sea coastline of Turkey ii). Can you guess which picture reflects each location? #wastewater #biogas #sustainability #carbonreduction #water
