"I am a 'where the wind blows me' type of person but growing up in LA (San Pedro) the port has always been a huge presence. Maybe it was always fate that I would work here," says Michelle Torres, APM Terminals Pier 400, Los Angeles. After joining us in late 2020 as a Customer Care Manager, Michelle was introduced to the Lean business principles we employ across our global operations. "Immediately, I knew it was speaking my language. Lean takes what can seem daunting and impossible and provides a foundation and framework to help you solve any problem," she says. Joining the Lean Team in October of last year she has been inspired by "leaving things better than I found them and that’s exactly what being a Lean Manager allows me to do. I get to help create a culture of positive change every day". October was "the best month in history," for APM Terminals Pecém, as geopolitical reverberations continue to see shipping lines lean on our South America solutions. According to Daniel Rose, Managing Director of the terminal, its location as the closest Brazilian terminal to both the US and Europe is providing an opportunity for the team to demonstrate their enviable operational efficiency standards. In total, 66,253 TEUs were transported between October 1 and October 31, representing a 16.42% increase over the previous record of 56,906 TEUs, set in December 2023. In a high-level panel debate hosted by the Bahrain Economic Development Board (EDB) earlier this week, APM Terminals' CEO, Keith Svendsen, joined other C-suite executives, government officials and politicians to debate the future of the global trade landscape. Speaking to APM Terminals' presence in the region he said: "We’re here to build more than sustainable infrastructure and to boost logistics—at the heart of it all, it’s about people. Our mission is to grow talent and foster diversity that goes way beyond this sector. Because when we invest in people, we’re setting up a foundation that lasts." The Gateway Gulf BH Investment Forum, now in its second year, highlighted opportunities and challenges in the rapidly transforming territories encompassed by The Cooperation Council for the Arab States of the Gulf (GCC) including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain and Oman. In a move that proves we maximise all our capabilities - including our 'home-grown talent', we're switching one terminal leader for another, ensuring we harness existing skills and experience within the group. The Port of Salalah - which recently rolled out the red carpet to the latest batch of cutting-edge infrastructure - has further reason to celebrate as it welcomes new Managing Director, Steven Yoogalingam. Yoogalingam took up the role on November 1, handing over the leadership position at Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT) to former Salalah MD, Keld Mosgaard Christensen. The two appointments demonstrate the extent to which APM Terminals capitalises on the learnings of in-house talent to lift the standards of efficiency for our customers.

When the Elizabeth Fire Department needed to conduct a critical confined space rescue drill, they knew who to call. APM Terminals Port Elizabeth in the Port of New York/New Jersey proudly worked with first responders for their annual training held earlier this month. Led by Deputy Chief William Vignali and Battalion Chief Gary Haszko, the exercise in a complex environment underscored the importance of preparedness in industrial settings where confined space incidents – though rare – pose a high risk for all involved. Said Candice Revill, HSSE Director at APM Terminals Port Elizabeth: “We hope they never have to use this training in a real situation, but their familiarity with our operation and equipment could save someone’s life.” Read more: https://bit.ly/3YsgiVz #SafetyFirst #workplacesafety #CommunitySafety #FireDepartment #GlobalSafetyDay

The initial phase was the largest demolition project in the state of Pernambuco, Brazil, to date and now Latin America's first 100% electrified terminal, APM Terminals Suape, is a major step closer to starting operations. APM Terminals has made a clean sweep of demolition work in preparation for the new port terminal in the Governador Eraldo Gueiros Port Industrial Complex. This stage, which began at the beginning of the year, required meticulous work to remove buildings and infrastructure with care. Now, the only way is up!

Just a few months ago we brought news from Ghana that a virtual reality simulator is lifting the standards of efficiency and safety at Tema Port where Meridian Port Services Ghana – an APM Terminals joint venture – inaugurated a simulation facility. Now, Liberia joins the rapidly increasing number of APM Terminals locations with a state-of-the-art Container Handling Equipment (CHE) Simulator. The immersive, hands-on training, boosts the safety, efficiency, and operational performance skills of our colleagues, and reinforces our number one priority: safety. The new equipment, installed at our APM Terminals Liberia Ltd. terminal last month, also demonstrates our commitment to training and local capacity building. Key features include: Realistic simulation of various port equipment, interactive interface for user engagement, performance tracking and feedback mechanisms, all with an emphasis on safe manoeuvres, collision avoidance and emergency response procedures. #liberia #training #boosting #safety #efficiency #performance

Not only the largest, but the most efficient terminal in Europe – that's the forecast for APM Terminals Maasvlakte II B.V. as it announces today a 'mega order' for a new Automated Horizontal Transport System, including up to 71 battery-powered Lift Automated Guided Vehicles (AGV's) from Konecranes. The terminal's expansion project, which sees it double capacity by 2027, will seal its status as the largest fully automated APM Terminal in Europe. Its total area, spanning 130 hectares, will include 2,000-meter-long deep-sea quay and 500 meters of barge quay. "We are laying a reliable foundation to meet our ambitious growth and CO2 reduction targets, and we can also serve our customers well at the expanded terminal,” says Harold Kunst, Managing Director, APM Terminals Maasvlakte II, pictured with Mikko Lepistö. When APM Terminals Moin, Costa Rica, donated special capture and release equipment to the local fire brigade, they didn't expect to benefit from the machinery themselves just weeks later. But the discovery of an active bee hive – dangerous in terminal that's operated 24/7 – necessitated their safe rehoming by a firefighter in protective clothing. The 'bee vac' provides just the right level of suction to remove bees without harming them, enabling experts to then release them to a safer area. Our environmental team at the terminal in Limon work to minimize our impact on local fauna and wildlife, recognizing the importance of insects to ecosystem balance, just as we recognize our responsibility to ‘bee kind’ to nature in the communities in which we operate. #beekind #responsibility #csr

“Truck Drivers, we appreciate you!” That was the message from our terminals in the United States as the country celebrated national Truck Driver Appreciation Week last month. Although it's mainly celebrated in the US, appreciation for truckers is a sentiment echoed across all our terminals on a day-to-day basis. We strive to ensure drivers at our facilities enjoy problem-free, safe and efficient journeys. Read more about how we do that: https://bit.ly/3YfIDyd #Truckers #Appreciation #NTDAW24 #connectivity
