2024 marks a special year for our organization as we celebrate 15 years of AIGHD. This year is also dedicated to the memory of AIGHD’s founder Joep Lange, who tragically died ten years ago and yet, still continues to inspire us with his passion for evidence-based activism. In an era marked by unprecedented challenges and opportunities in global health, the concurrent theme of the 2024 Joep Lange Chair and Fellow Symposium and Masterclass, “Towards a Just Future in Global Health”, highlights our commitment to equity, inclusivity, and sustainability in healthcare across the globe. This year we seek to challenge and reflect on the barriers that prevent equitable access to health across various affective variables like economic status, society, and policy. Stay tuned for registrations which open on the 5th of July. Learn more on our website: https://bit.ly/489XLld #Global #Health #Joep #Lange #Equity #Inclusivity #Sustainability #AIGHD15

An international research and education institute working to develop sustainable solutions to major health problems.
Over ons
The Amsterdam Institute for Global Health and Development (AIGHD) is an international research and education institute that works to develop sustainable solutions to major health problems. By taking a problem-oriented approach, AIGHD transcends the boundaries of traditional academic disciplines and integrates three fundamental activities into one institute: • Research • Education & capacity building • Policy & impact AIGHD was initiated as a partnership between the Academic Medical Center (AMC), the University of Amsterdam (UvA) and the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU). Today, it is a dynamic research and education institute that thrives on intense collaboration among experts from multiple disciplines including biomedicine, economics and social and behavioral sciences. With its interdisciplinary and translational approach, AIGHD addresses the most critical medical, social, economic and political challenges in global health and development that cut across national and political borders. To realize its vision of ‘‘access to high quality health care for all’’, AIGHD closely collaborates with implementing partners and organizations from both public and private sectors around the globe. AIGHD works by linking expertise, resources and programs from organizations involved in health-related research, education, capacity building and policy making, bringing a ‘delivery perspective’ to health research and a ‘quality aspect’ to health care services.

Alessandra Guida, a member of the PreFIT team from Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal), recently wrote an article on the team's progress in tackling #TB in #Mozambique. #Tuberculosis affects millions of people worldwide and has long plagued humanity. While improvements in medicine and treatment regimes over the past 50 years have greatly shifted the power of TB on our species, new drug development has been sparse. This is why it is imperative for us to learn more about #TB through research projects like PreFIT. Check out the article here: https://lnkd.in/djmisBij

AIGHD Fellow Pramiti Parwani co-wrote a section on discussing the legal aspects of global vaccine health equity as part of the book 'Vaccins'. The COVID-19 pandemic unearthed a multitude of issues surrounding vaccine equity despite the existence of vaccine access and distribution networks across the globe. This section is an interesting take on how our policies shape and rework relationships between and across national lines. Take a look in the post below! #Vaccines #global #health #equity #covid19 #sarscov2
