Coordinating the Sustainable Economic Development Cluster of GIZ Programmes in Nigeria and Head of SEDIN
Thanks Charles Odii and SMEDAN team and I’m looking forward to implementing, e.g. the ICSS modules for MSMEs: Inspire, Create, Start, Scale with #SEDIN GIZ Nigeria & ECOWAS
🤝The continued partnership with SMEDAN for MSME Development. The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH in Nigeria have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to collaborate on enhancing the growth and digital transformation of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) across the country. Under this agreement, the two parties will work together to implement the National MSME Policy, promote entrepreneurship among young individuals, and provide crucial support for MSMEs to access business-enabling infrastructure. Additionally, the partnership aims to improve access to finance, entrepreneurship education, digital skills, and mentorship for MSMEs, ultimately creating a more conducive environment for their success. Charles Odii, Director-General of SMEDAN, and Markus Wauschkuhn, head of the Sustainable Economic Development Cluster at GIZ Nigeria, both expressed their enthusiasm for this collaboration and the positive impact it will have on MSMEs. GIZ's work to support the growth and digital transformation of MSMEs in Nigeria is implemented under the SEDIN programme, funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). Did you know? Women account for just 9% of global fintech founders. This statistic not only reveals a stark underrepresentation but also underscores the significant gender disparity in leadership roles within the fintech industry. This gap is not merely a reflection of missed opportunities for women but also a broader issue of diversity and inclusivity within the sector. At the Women in Fintech forum during Digital PayExpo 2024, the panelists dove deep into changing this narrative by providing an entry platform for women passionate about fintech. Key themes that emerged from the discussions included the importance of mentorship, access to capital, and fostering a supportive ecosystem. From insights shared by top CEOs and founders to tackling critical topics like funding (where women-led startups received only 2.3% of global VC investments in 2020), the panelists highlighted various means participants could secure the capital needed to grow their businesses. Join us in paving the way for more diversity and innovation in fintech! If more Educational institutions in Africa could align towards producing more job creators than job seekers, we would see exponential growth in the economy. while we understand not everyone would become an enterpreneur, everyone atleast needs to have the intrapreneurial mindset to help businesses grow. This is why I am very excited to be one of the Judges at the Pan-Atlantic University (PAU) 2024 Demo Day where students would be pitching their businesses which addresses the SDGs. I will be taking on this task with team of incredible judges like: David Lanre Messan, Yemi Keri, Demilade J. , Comfort Aruosa-Osemwegie We look forward to other higher institutions in Africa emulating this, as it is only Africans that can solve Africa's problems better. #enterpreneurship #Innovation #Africa

Today, AfriLabs unveiled two pivotal studies on artificial intelligence in Africa. The first report, 'Landscape Analysis of AI Startups in Africa,' maps out the diverse AI startup ecosystem across the continent. It categorizes startups by focus areas, development stages, and geographical spread, offering a comprehensive view of Africa's current AI landscape. This study identifies key challenges and opportunities faced by these startups within Africa's unique socioeconomic context. The second study, 'Implications of AI Ethical Policies on African Innovators and Entrepreneurs,' examines how varying ethical frameworks and policies impact AI development and deployment across African nations. It explores both the positive implications and potential risks, providing strategic recommendations to ensure that AI practices align with ethical standards and contribute to Africa's broader development goals. According to AfriLabs, these publications fill critical knowledge gaps and will significantly influence African AI practitioners, policymakers, and researchers. They aim to guide informed decision-making and foster an environment conducive to AI innovation across the continent. Nanko Madu, Director of Programmes at AfriLabs, highlighted the studies' importance: "These insights are pivotal for navigating the evolving AI landscape in Africa and addressing the ethical considerations that must shape our innovation journey. We extend our gratitude to the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation for their support and believe these studies will serve as invaluable resources for stakeholders continent-wide." #ArtificialIntelligence #AIInnovation #EthicalAI #AfricanTech #AfriLabs #BillAndMelindaGatesFoundation The full reports are available for download at the following links: Ethical Horizons: Mapping AI Policy in Africa- https://zurl.co/mCqr Startups Mapping in Africa - https://zurl.co/TGEm To read more: https://zurl.co/yh15

The Nigeria Climate Innovation Center (NCIC), is excited to announce the release of our final report: "Rethinking The Green Tax Propositions & Adopting Circular Economy as an Inclusive Catalyst for Unlocking a Sustainable Circular Economy in Nigeria" This comprehensive report explores the immense potential of a circular economy for Nigeria's future. It delves into the economic and environmental benefits of transitioning away from a linear consumption model and towards a closed-loop system that prioritizes reuse, recycling, and resource recovery. Our research highlights how a circular economy can: - Drive economic growth by creating new jobs and industries in waste management, recycling, and product design. - Enhance environmental sustainability by minimizing waste generation, reducing dependence on virgin resources, and lowering greenhouse gas emissions. - Promote social well-being by fostering inclusive economic opportunities and improving public health through better waste management practices. This report serves as a valuable resource for policymakers, businesses, investors, and all stakeholders interested in advancing a sustainable future for Nigeria.
