Vice President - Africa at Ashipa Electric/Board Member AMDA/Cleantech Open-NECEC 2021/Business Growth Professional
It was delightful to speak on behalf of the President of Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria, Mr. Ayo Ademilua (FICA,MBA) at the Nigeria in-country event, "Youth Driven Mini-Grids in Nigeria: Insights and Next Steps" organized by Clean Tech Hub Nigeria. I shared my insights on the vast potential of the mini-grid and renewable energy sector in addressing various challenges facing the country, including energy poverty, unemployment, insecurity, healthcare, clean water, and education. To fully harness this potential, I emphasized the need for policies that empower energypreneurs, particularly youth and women, at all government levels (federal, state, and local). These policies should be prioritized and fast-tracked to create a supportive ecosystem for youth participation in clean energy solutions. Importantly, Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria places huge importance on youth participation in the mini-grid sector through sensitization programmes, mentorship platforms and stakeholder engagements to foster youth-friendly policies in the mini-grid sector. Additionally, the youth have a role to play and it starts with the will and zest to play a major part in finding a lasting solution to problems. Young folks need to stop complaining but rather invest their time in harvesting information about the numerous opportunities available that can potentially help them achieve their dreams. Let's work together to create a better future for all. #RenewableEnergy #MiniGrids #YouthEmpowerment #SustainableDevelopment #Energypreneurs #Nigeria
Africa's youth population is booming, but job creation is struggling to keep pace. With only 3.7 million jobs generated annually against 11 million new labor market entrants (source: Africa Policy Research Institute), it's clear that innovative solutions are needed. The minigrid sector offers a promising solution, with the potential to employ up to 500,000 people in Africa by 2025 (source: Africa Minigrid Developers Association). In Nigeria alone, the minigrid sector could create over 100,000 jobs by 2030 (source: Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria). At a recent roundtable event, "Unlocking Youth Potential for Sustainable Development," organized by Clean Tech Hub Nigeria and APRI - Africa Policy Research Institute, and supported by Mastercard Foundation, our VP of Operations, Folusho Alabi, represented REAN (Renewable Energy Association of Nigeria). He spoke about "Youth-Driven Green Mini-Grids in Nigeria" where he shared key insights. He emphasized on the following: - Creating youth associations in green technology - Developing enabling policies to enhance clean energy transitions - Strengthening educational curricula to build interests and train youths in green mini-grid technologies - Establishing special financing vehicles to incentivize young and female energypreneurs - Sector partnerships Summarily, he submitted that by fostering collaboration between youth employment initiatives and green technology policies, we can unlock the potential of Africa's youth to drive sustainable development and economic prosperity. Together, let's build a resilient and prosperous future!
