Celebrating Women in Nigerian Agriculture!
Empowering Women Farmers Strengthens Food Security
Recently, Oxfam in Nigeria celebrated female food heroes. The event combined a policy dialogue highlighting the crucial role women play in Nigerian agriculture with the "Female Food Hero 2024" award ceremony. The theme was "Promoting the Role of Women Food Producers and their Contribution to Food Security in Nigeria."
These women are essential to the agricultural sector, involved in every step from planting to processing.
The ceremony celebrated three exceptional women farmers who emerged as winners after a competitive selection process:
- Ogbonge Grace Okwor (1st Place Winner)
- Ogbonge Abdullahi Altine Lucy (2nd Place Winner)
- Ogbonge Folashade Olaniyan Josephine (3rd Place Winner)
This event not only recognized their achievements but also served as a powerful call to action. Stakeholders were urged to implement policies and provide financial support to empower women farmers further.

Increased support for women in agriculture is critical for strengthening Nigeria's food security.
