Every July 18, on Nelson Mandela 's birthday, the world comes together to celebrate Nelson Mandela International Day, and at EWEI, we take it as a powerful call to action. This day is more than just a commemoration. It's a chance for individuals, communities, and organisations like ours to reflect on the values Nelson Mandela championed – justice, equality, and service. It's a day to step up and make a positive impact in the communities we serve. No act of kindness is too small. Just like Mandela's unwavering commitment to change, even your smallest contribution can make a big difference. Let's honour Mandela's legacy by taking action together. Join EWEI in making a positive impact this Mandela Day! Sonke Gender Justice Nelson Mandela Foundation MenEngage Alliance #MandelaDay2024 #ItIsInYourHands

Scenes from the Together We Can (TWC) project first seminar for new beneficiaries, thanks to the support of the UN Trust Fund to End Violence against Women. The seminar provided a safe and supportive space for primary beneficiaries to: • Break the ice and connect with each other • Receive a basic mental health assessment • Gain a clear understanding of key terms: violence, its various forms, trauma, vulnerability, and exploitation • Learn about psychosocial support, including both clinical and first-aid approaches. The TWC project is dedicated to empowering marginalised women and girls in Kaduna State's protracted crisis areas. Through mental and psychosocial support, counseling, economic empowerment initiatives, and post-violence support, the project aims to assist those facing intersectional discrimination and surviving gender-based violence. #TWCEVAWG #UNTF #SGBV

In 2014, the United Nations General Assembly designated July 15 as World Youth Skills Day to emphasize the vital importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, decent work, and entrepreneurship. The theme for World Youth Skills Day 2024, “Youth Skills for Peace and Development” highlights the significant role young people play in peacebuilding and conflict resolution. Today, the world faces numerous challenges that greatly impact youth. Violent conflicts disrupt education and stability, a polarised online environment fosters negativity, and persistent economic inequality limits opportunities. These issues threaten not only individual futures but also the stability of societies as a whole. Therefore, it is essential to equip youth with the necessary skills to foster a culture of peace, nurture responsible global citizens, and promote sustainable development, building a more just, inclusive, and sustainable future for all. On World Youth Skills Day, let us come together to recognise the potential of young people as agents of peace and commit to providing them with the skills and opportunities needed to tackle challenges and contribute to a peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable future. It is not about what is poured into the youth and younger generations but what is planted in them. Youthfulness and skillfulness should go hand in hand. Empower the youth with skills so they can be valuable to their communities. Generations For Peace MenEngage Alliance Federal Ministry of Youth & Sports Development, Nigeria. This year's World Population Day, with the theme "Leave No One Behind, Count Everyone," tackles the critical issue of inclusive data collection. Celebrated every July 11, this day highlights the importance of ensuring everyone is counted, regardless of background or circumstance. World Population Day 2024 asks a crucial question: Who are we missing in our data, and why? These gaps have real consequences, hindering progress towards human rights and hindering our ability to support marginalised communities. The message is clear: To empower everyone, we need to see everyone. By ensuring our data systems reflect the full spectrum of humanity, we can ensure everyone has the opportunity to be seen, heard, and reach their full potential. An accurate count isn't just about numbers - it's about recognising the value of every individual. Just like a tapestry, our society is strongest when all its threads are included. When data works for those on the margins, it works for everyone. This is how we build a future where progress benefits all. Across Nigeria, women are missing from many leadership positions. But today's #SheroWednesday shines a light on Olorunshola Abiodun Mary! She's shattered a glass ceiling by becoming the first female Students' Union Government (SUG) President at the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) in its entire 13-year history. This is a huge win for all women who dream of leading. #Shero

Sexual harassment remains a significant issue affecting millions of people all over the world. Statistics tells us that 80% of people have faced or are likely to encounter sexual harassment regardless of gender. Empowering Women for Excellence Initiative (EWEI), with support from the African Women's Development Fund (AWDF), implemented the “We For Them ” (WFT) Project to tackle this menace from April 2022 to March 2024. The We For Them Project aims to reduce sexual and gender-based violence rates, focusing on sexual harassment and abuse in public spaces, and also raising awareness about EWEI’s Gender-Based Violence toll-free helpline and support systems for survivors. https://lnkd.in/dCqAg9w2
