Since 2010, the global average cost of solar electricity has fallen by ~90%, and breakthroughs are likely to push it further. Solar is now one of the fastest-growing renewable energy sources in the world, thanks to the many people who continue to dump fossil energy yearly. Though solar power is steadily growing in the country, most Nigerians can't afford it due to the high cost of the #solar PV system caused majorly by an unfavourable foreign exchange (FX) regime amidst very low domestic solar panel manufacturing capacity. Nonetheless, our calculation at Bavijas Consulting shows that Nigerian homes and businesses that overcome the upfront cost of installing solar systems will reach their breakeven point in about five years, helping them cut electricity costs significantly over 25 years. Attached below is me at a site installing a 1KVA solar inverter system for a bachelor somewhere in Uyo, Nigeria. Uyo hasn’t had grid electricity for four days now and still counting. And many homes are already thinking of solar power. For your quality solar installation in Akwa Ibom and environs, reach out to me. #Bavijas

News Release The US DOE Loan Programs Office has announced a conditional loan guarantee of up to $1.45 billion to Qcells North America, a leading North American crystalline silicon solar manufacturer. The news was published in a post by Solar Power World on August 8. The loan guarantee will support Qcells’ solar supply chain facility in Cartersville, Georgia, which will produce ingots, wafers, cells and finished solar panels. The site is expected to begin producing ingots, wafers, cells and panels in late 2024. The 3.3-GW solar panels/year project will be the first fully integrated silicon-based #solar manufacturing facility constructed in the US in over a decade, as well as the largest ingot and wafer plant ever built in the US meant to produce critical but missing parts of the domestic solar supply chain. Mind you, the US largely depends on solar cells and panels produced in China and Southeast Asia. #Bavijas

Perovskite is gradually replacing silicon-based solar panels. Scientists at Oxford University have found an approach that could generate more solar power from perovskite without the need for more silicon-based solar panels. They simply stacked many light-absorbing layers into one #solar cell that harnesses a wider range of light spectrum from the same amount of sunlight. The ultra-thin, multi-junction material approach can provide over 27% conversion efficiency, matching conventional single-layer silicon panels. With time, the approach will outperform PVs as the efficiency is expected to go up, above 45%. Strikingly, this new material, 150 times thinner than a silicon wafer, can be applied as a coating on the surface of day-to-day objects like mobile phones. Since 2010, the global average cost of solar electricity has fallen by almost 90%, with technological innovation promising further cuts in the near future. The world may seem more divided now than ever before, but there are still some people out there who never grow tired of supporting NonProfits and their causes in underserved communities. Every year, billions of dollars keep rolling out to NonProfits for one thing the other. Most of that money comes from four (4) major sources including corporations, foundations, individuals and bequests (or wills). In 2023, Candid reported that individuals contributed the most to NonProfits, giving over $374 billion, followed by foundations at $103 billion, bequests at $42 billion and corporations at $36 billion. This testifies to the fact that humanity still exists. The easiest tell here is Mr Philemon Olusegun, a UK-based health and safety consultant, who has been a regular supporter of our energy education cause at Bavijas Consulting. No one has ever become poor by giving. They say that givers never lack. Don’t stop giving. Keep giving. Give!

The European Council and the European Parliament recently passed the Right-to-Repair (R2R) directive, obliging manufacturers to provide repair services for broken or defective goods even after their warranty period expires. #CircularEconomy #Bavijas #Sustainability Stand Out For Environment Restoration (SOFER) Initiative

HOW BIG OIL FARED IN 2Q 2024 We are already weeks away from June 2024 and, as is the norm in the corporate world, publicly traded companies have begun posting their financials for the second quarter (Q2); usually from April - June. Big Oil - the world's largest and most influential publicly traded oil and natural gas producers including bp, Chevron, Eni, ExxonMobil, Shell, and TotalEnergies aren't left out as their financials are already public. In this post, I analyze, numbers-wise, the adjusted profits posted by these companies in Q2 2024 (using official data on companies' websites). Perhaps, it will inform us as well as guide potential investors in their decisions. • bp: $2.76 bln, up from $2.3 bln in Q1 • Shell: $6.3 bln, down from $7.7 bln in Q1 • Eni: $1.62 bln, down from $1.69 bln in Q1 • Chevron: $4.7 bln, down from $5.4 bln in Q1 • ExxonMobil: $9.24 bln, up from $8.22 bln in Q1 • TotalEnergies: $4.7 bln, down from $5.1 bln in Q1 In summary, Big Oil made huge, higher-than-expected profits this quarter (a total of $29.32 bln ) due largely to increased hydrocarbon activities with less emphasis on clean energies. ExxonMobil made the most profit. You should be smiling to the bank if you are a shareholder in Big Oil😃. Reason? It’s windfall season and the dividend payout will no doubt be huge. Also, it may interest you to note that Saudi aramco recorded a whopping $28.3 bln in net profit for Q2 2024; just about $1 bln lower than the entire Big Oil combined. Is Saudi Aramco your mate? 😂 Hope this helps. #Energy #Profits #Bavijas #BigOil

How does hydraulic fracturing “fracking” contribute to earthquakes? That's the question that citizens of Texas, USA are trying to answer as the state witnessed an unprecedented over 100 earthquakes in just nine (9) days. In our latest article published just a few minutes ago, we put that costly question to rest. Bottom line? Earthquakes in Texas are almost 99% likely to be linked to oil and gas operations. The ExxonMobil-led Guyana consortium is indeed making things hard for Chevron, as the latter’s upstream CAPEX slides downwards. See attached chart. As a result, Chevron’s Q2 2024 earnings have been negatively impacted by the legal tussle over Hess Corporation, now expected to be over by mid-2025. Plus, Chevron plans to move its headquarters from California to Texas for some reasons, one of which includes pressure from climate alarmists. 📷 Reuters #energy #chevron #hess #bavijas

The US may not be seismically active overall but the incident where over 100 earthquakes struck Texas in 9 days has got many experts pointing fingers at shale fracking as the culprit. Texas has over 50,000 oilfield brine disposal well sites. According to Justin Rubinstein, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey in Menlo Park, California, Texas earthquakes are “almost 99% likely" to be linked to local oil fields. “We can say with confidence that these (earthquakes) are related to oil and gas extractions”, he added. Is shale fracking the potential cause of the massive earthquakes currently ravaging Texas? Let’s hear your thoughts! 📷: Canva/ Klaq #energy #fracking #shale #bavijas
