NBL AND NAFAU SIGN 18-MONTH SUBSTANTIVE WAGE AGREEMENT Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) and the Namibia Food and Allied Workers Union (NAFAU) recently signed an 18-month substantive wage agreement for the period 01 July 2024 to 31 December 2025. With effect from 01 July 2024, all bargaining unit employees will receive a wage increase of 2.5% on basic salaries from July to December 2024 and 6% on basic salaries from January to December 2025. NBL gives N$3million boost to Namibian Rugby Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) sponsored N$3-million to the Namibian Rugby Union on Tuesday this week. The latest sponsorship is geared towards supporting domestic club and regional tournaments for the Namibian rugby players to prepare themselves to qualify for the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia. Under the brand name Windhoek Draught Welwitschias, NBL is keen to support the national sport team to display their local talents at home and at international sporting events of this magnitude. In view the latest sponsorship, Namibia Rugby Union’s Vice President Johan Diergaardt said: “The involvement of NBL in these initiatives are pivotal, not only for the advancement of rugby within Namibia, but also for promoting our sport on the international stage.” As a local company vested in the development of national sports, NBL’s Marketing Manager Tasneem Klazen said that it through this partnership that NBL wants to strengthen the development of the sport locally, but also enable the team to elevate their profile on the global scene. “This fruitful and mutually respectful partnership has really come a long way over the last seven years. Our objective has always been for Namibia to qualify for the Rugy World Cup and our national team has really shown great passion at the two tournaments during this time in Japan 2019 and France 2023. By encouraging a culture of excellence, we really hope to create a national team all Namibians can be proud of,” said Klazen. Through smart investments and teamwork, NBL is committed to supporting rugby in the country as it is geared towards building a strong and lasting rugby community by helping young rugby players and supporting local clubs in the regional leagues – as a build up to the 2027 Rugby World Cup. With the latest financial boost, the Namibian National Team can now look forward to a test match against Portugal on the 13th of July this year and allowed the under 20 team to recently compete in the Barthez Rugby Africa Cup tournament in Zimbabwe where they ended 3rd behind winners Kenya and 2nd placed Zimbabwe.
NBL receives Overall Top Tax Contributor Award! Namibia Breweries Limited (NBL) was recently awarded with the “Overall Highest Trader Revenue Contribution” for the year 2023. The award from the Namibia Revenue Agency (NamRA), showcases the NBL’s tax compliance and overall positive contribution to the development of the local economy. NBL was awarded in the category of the “Highest Contributor of Customs and Excise,” which relates to the revenue collected mainly on customs and excise duties and Value Added Tax (VAT) for the period January to December 2023. NBL continues to remain a proudly Namibian business that continues to invest in the Namibian economy. This becomes even more evident by the amounts collected on behalf of central and local governments totalling N$876 million for the 12-month period July 2022 to June 2023. Upon receiving the award, NBL’s Finance Director Waldemar von Lieres says that “as a good corporate citizen, NBL is fully tax compliant in line with Namibia’s laws and regulations. Through this gesture we are pleased with the acknowledgement that we continue to contribute meaningfully to the country’s social economic business environment.” He adds that this not only speaks to the company’s values of good business practice, but also goes a long way in positively impacting the lives of Namibians through tax compliance. This ultimately is aligned to NBL’s sustainability agenda of Brewing a Better Namibia for the future. The annual award was presented to NBL by NamRA’s at the 2024 Taxpayer/Trader Appreciation Day event held on the 10th of April 2024 in Windhoek under the theme: “Expecting Taxpayers and Traders to Positively impact the livelihood of Namibians through Compliance.”
