For Who You Are And Where You Are Going, Make The Connection

About us

MTC (Mobile Telecommunications Limited) was established in 1995 as a joint venture between Namibia Post and Telecommunications Holdings (NPTH), Telia and Swedfund. During May 2004, NPTH concluded a deal that saw it hold 100 per cent of the shares in MTC by acquiring the 49 per cent held by Telia Overseas AB and Swedfund International AB. During 2006 the sale of 34% of MTC shares to Portugal Telecom was concluded for N$1.34 billion while the Namibian government retains the remainder of the stake through NPTH. MTC currently covers 98 per cent of the population of nearly 2 million citizens with more than 650 base stations and repeaters and offers a dual band 900/1800MHZ. The company also expanded its cellular coverage to all major towns in Namibia, including the major arterial roads. MTC was the second Mobile Operator to introduce 4GLTE in May 2012. The Company's 3G HSDPA Network allows for a download speed of up 7.2 Mbps in Namibia's major towns. It further runs two modern MSC's (mobile switching centre) in Windhoek and Oshakati with capacity to accommodate rapidly rising number of customers of over 2 million active users. In May 2012, the company also launched its 4G technology making it the second mobile operator on the continent to have 4G technologies. MTC also operates the only full service customer contact centre in Namibia dealing with service queries ranging from telephony, sms, fax, GPRS, data, voicemail and 3G/HSDPA. A staff of 421 persons serves a diverse market of both pre- and postpaid subscribers

We are pleased to have collaborated with Development Workshop Namibia (DWN) and Oshakati Town Council in constructing and inaugurating the MTC Onawa Early Childhood Development (ECD) Centre, at Onawa location in Oshakati. The centre was built as part of our CSI, and has amenities such as modern classrooms, a tuck-shop, and an outdoor playground. In addition to its educational role, the model centre will also serve as a hub for essential community activities, including educarer training, parental workshops, and ministerial services such as birth registration outreach. The drive is to create a supportive environment that benefits not just children but the entire community.

Yesterday, in our Elevate Leadership Coaching Series, we explored the question under the theme, “Bringing the Science of Leadership to the Art of Parenting.” Dr. Monica Nehemia and Mr. Carven Izaks shared personal stories of balancing career ambition with family life, reminding us that while it’s not easy, it is possible if we lead with love and intention. Dr. Nehemia highlighted that “parenting is not a fixed model,” emphasizing the uniqueness of every child and the need for flexibility, much like leading diverse teams. Mr. Isak’s powerful words echoed through the room: “To be great, you must serve your family well.” He reminded us that no success at work can outweigh failure at home, urging us to prioritize integrity, responsibility, and love within our families. The session reaffirmed that balancing parenthood and leadership is not a myth, but a practice rooted in commitment.

We are proud to celebrate the remarkable success of our flagship empowerment program, MTC 4 Life, which has continued to transform the lives of Namibian youth through trainings that give soft and practical business skills, and availing capital and equipment to bolster their entrepreneurial undertakings. Sevelinus Siwango, recruited for animation skill transfer, has made incredible strides by opening a printing shop in Divundu. The business now employs three staff members, creating job opportunities for his fellow youth in his community. Eben Hiwanaane, who participated in the sewing sector of MTC 4 Life, has relocated her firm from Opuwo to Odibo. She now leases two outlets, further expanding her operations and stimulating economic growth in the area. Another MTC 4 Life success story is of Lonia Kandjengo, a beneficiary from Nkurenkuru who leased an outlet immediately after completing the program and turned it into a go-to salon. She now works with seven youths who sublet from her at a minimal fee, providing them with an affordable platform to grow their skills and businesses. These inspiring stories are a testament to MTC 4 Life’s commitment to empowering Namibian entrepreneurs, fostering job creation, and advancing the local economy. We are proud.
