The Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) is back again in EMEA region after three-year hiatus and this year it takes place in Dubai from 16th until 20th September 2024. With the theme Mobility Driven by ITS, the 30th ITS World Congress, organised by ERTICO and hosted by Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), showcase the latest technologies in sustainable and smart mobility as well as digitalization of transport. ITS World Congress 2024 gather experts from the global ITS community including PLUS Managing Director, Datuk Nik Airina Nik Jaffar who was also featured as one of the speakers during Technical Programme session on 16 September 2024 at 1515hrs (Dubai Time) that focused on "The Practical Application of Artificial Intelligence To Emergency Management" In her sharing, Datuk Nik emphasized the mobility technology i.e. the use of artificial intelligence to line with efforts to enhance safety, PLUS has implemented an AI system on the Penang Bridge that utilises cutting-edge technologies and surveillance mechanisms to detect and respond to suicide attempts. This system is specifically designed to continuously monitor multiple data points and promptly identify potential indicators of suicide in real-time. PLUS delegates also includes Senior General Manager of Operations, Mr. Mohd Yusuf Abdul Aziz, Mr. Azalan Sulaiman, Head,Maintenance & Projects and Mr Peter Lee Hin Weng, Head of Customer Ecosystem, Payment & Big Data. PLUS is honoured that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim officiated the launch of Malaysia’s first sustainable rest and service (R&R) area on 8th September at the Seremban (Southboundl on the North-South Expressway, marking a significant milestone in the country’s infrastructure development. The newly redeveloped Seremban R&R incorporates a range of green technologies, positioning it as a model for future highway facilities across the nation. The Prime Minister emphasised the importance of sustainable infrastructure, noting that the Seremban R&R reflects a growing commitment to eco-friendly solutions. The R&R features solar energy systems, rainwater harvesting for public facilities, and natural ventilation in its surau, setting a new standard for highway rest areas. The redevelopment project, which secured a Green Building Index (GBI) Gold Rating, incorporates sustainable building materials and state-of-the-art green technologies. It is the first R&R in the country to feature electric vehicle (EV) charging stations, waste composting machines, and fabric recycling bins. Located at KM274.6, between the Nilai Interchange and Bandar Ainsdale Interchange, the R&R area is designed to meet the growing needs of highway users while prioritising environmental sustainability. In addition to green technologies, the facility offers significant improvements to its public spaces, including a food court nearly eight times larger than its predecessor, accommodating over 500 visitors. The surau has also been upgraded to provide greater comfort for Muslims to carry out their prayers, with space for up to 150 men and 150 women.
