  • It was a productive discussion at the Second International Gas Union SSEA Regional Meeting that brought together key IGU Charter Members including Malaysian Gas Association, Indonesian Gas Society (IGS), PTT Thailand, and the Cambodian Natural Gas Corporation, to discuss the current state of our region's gas industry. We explored the challenges we face and the exciting aspirations we share. MGA President, Abdul Aziz Othman in his capacity as the IGU Regional Coordinator for South & Southeast Asia, is committed to work together to foster a unified voice and regional position. This will ensure regional industry players could effectively highlight the critical role natural gas plays in our region's sustainable development. It was particularly encouraging to hear virtually from IGU Vice President, Andrea Stegher. His message underscored the importance of regional engagement and how IGU can be the right platform for Southeast Asian voices to be heard on a global stage. The meeting also featured a presentation from the Egyptian Gas Association (Eng. Cav. Khaled Abubakr) an IGU Charter Member, on their upcoming presidency campaign for the IGU Triennium 2028-2031. Thank you to all fellow IGU regional members (Ekachai Sirithammasan, Aris Mulya Azof / Indonesian Gas Society, Rakhmad Dewanto, Djohardi Angga Kusumah) for collectively supporting these valuable efforts. Looking forward to the next regional engagement for this region.

I was honored to deliver a keynote address today at the IndoPACIFIC LNG Summit 2024 in my capacity as MGA President & IGU Regional Coordinator for South & Southeast Asia. The main focus of my speech was highlighting the crucial role that natural gas and LNG play in unleashing the vast potential of our region. During my address, I underscored the pressing need for regional cooperation to guarantee a secure, affordable, and sustainable energy supply for our countries. This region holds tremendous promise, and through collective efforts, we can establish a cohesive gas market that benefits the entire energy landscape. The onus is on us, the local industry pioneers. Ultimately, collaboration is paramount. The responsibility falls on our shoulders, utilizing our expertise to unlock the complete potential of our local resources.

Malaysia has retained its position as the fifth largest liquefied natural gas (LNG) exporter in 2023, after Russia, Qatar, Australia and the US. According to the International Gas Union 15th annual World LNG Report 2024 released on Friday, Malaysia’s total LNG export in 2023 was 26.75 million tonnes (MT), constituting about 7% of the total LNG traded globally. MGA President highlighted that “MGA recognise the crucial role LNG will play in Malaysia's energy transition roadmap, which anticipates gas demand to increase from 43% to 56% by 2050. This projected rise underscores the need for our industry to be fully prepared to meet these heightened expectations. This requires a multi-pronged approach, focusing on ensuring sufficient gas availability, developing & maintaining infrastructure readiness for smooth distribution and creating a conducive market environment. This; entails the formulation and implementation of pragmatic, clear and consistent policies to attract investments and to grow the gas industry.” #Malaysiangas

  • A huge thank you to SBH Kibing for the great hospitality and to all our members who joined MGA's Technical Visit 2024 to the Solar New Material Plant! This insightful trip provided a firsthand look at how solar glass panels, a crucial component in renewable energy, are manufactured using #naturalgas as a reliable and efficient fuel source. Members gained valuable knowledge of the entire process, from the burning of high-quality silica sands to rigorous quality control measures using advanced magnetic technologies. This visit strengthens our understanding of the vital role natural gas plays in supporting the development of sustainable energy solutions. See you at the next MGA event! #Malaysiangas
