On 24 July 2024, KLS Martin Group, a global surgical & innovation solutions provider based in Germany, held the Grand Opening of its new IPS (Individual Patient Solution) support office and its regional sales and service office at MWE Plaza 8, George Town, Penang. The opening of these offices mark a new milestone for KLS Martin which established its first offshore manufacturing facility in Bukit Minyak, Penang, back in 2014. The IPS support office, first of its kind in Penang, houses engineers to tailor implant solutions unique to each patient's injury details and requirements.

GBS By The Sea, part of Penang IC Design and Digital Park, is set to be completed by 1 December 2024. This 9-storey building offers a net lettable area of 294,000 square feet and 830 parking bays, equipped with lab facility is meticulously designed to house three prominent players including AMD, Celestica and one of tech giants from the United States. The state-of-the-art building is the first of its kind in Malaysia with two 11kV power substation and floor loading capacity of 5KN/m2, which is ideal to house IC design and R&D companies. Penang will continue to investing in the establishment of high-end office spaces to attract and retain top-tier business and talent to solidify its position as a leading destination for business excellence and growth in the region.

At BFM’s “The Breakfast Grille” on July 22, Dato’ Loo Lee Lian, CEO of InvestPenang shared about Penang’s strategy in moving up the value chain, aligning with the National Semiconductor Strategy, availability of talent pool and initiatives to support local SMEs to be part of the global supply chain. She also provided glimpse of the upcoming Penang STEM Talent Blueprint to build a sustainable skilled talent pipeline in the state and the "Silicon Design @5km " initiative comprising 3 major projects – Penang IC Design & Digital Park, Penang Chip Design Academy and Silicon Research & Incubation Space. Other challenges such as industrial land readiness, water and traffic were also discussed during the session.
