  • The government launched the Forest City Special Financial Zone (SFZ) on Friday 20 Sept in a bid to spur economic growth and attract investors. Forest City consists of four man-made islands covering 30 square kilometers, developed through a RM420 billion joint venture between Chinese developer Country Garden and Johor government-backed Esplanade Danga 88. Since launching in 2016, Forest City faced problems ranging from environmental to regulatory issues, which deterred potential investors and tenants. “These incentives are expected to attract businesses, financial institutions, and high-net-worth individuals, further augmenting Forest City’s position as a preferred investment destination,” said Finance Minister II Amir Hamzah Azizan.
