For the first time, our new tire made from 71% renewable and recycled materials hit the track at our test center in France, fitted on the Porsche GT4 e-Performance.  This is no small feat. Because, as essential as the ambition to make tires more sustainable may be, they still have to perform. So we tested these tires, and not just on any car. The Porsche AG GT4 e-Performance is the vision of an all-electric racing car, delivering up to 800 kW...  Another proof that sustainability and high-performance can in fact go hand-in-hand. For the first time, Michelin is running its lunar tires on volcanic soil in France.   Three months after announcing that Michelin and its partners were selected by NASA - National Aeronautics and Space Administration for phase 1 of the ARTEMIS project, these tests allow us to observe how these revolutionary tires behave on a surface with similar characteristics to lunar soil. We are also testing the ability of these tires to operate at temperatures above 100°C and below -240°C, withstand exposure to solar and galactic radiation and preserve the rover battery autonomy. These extremely demanding tests would not be possible without Michelin's expertise in composite materials and airless technologies.   Michelin, on the road and beyond.   Learn more ➡ https://lnkd.in/etwDb9Eq

As soon as a tire rolls, it starts wearing out, significantly impacting its performance. And yet, tires are only tested when they're new, before going on sale.  As a recognized leader in tire longevity, we welcome the new European regulations on the performance of new car tires once worn. This new European provision includes a statutory wet braking test, encouraging motorists to rely on trusted tires, right down to the legal tread depth of 1.6 mm. Confident that they can rely on their tires over the long term, European motorists will be able to keep their tires longer, preserving their purchasing power. Consumers could save almost 7 billion euros a year! A helping hand for the wallet, but also for the planet. Application of this regulation will have an impact on demand for new tires in Europe, which could be reduced by 128 million units annually, leading to a reduction in CO2 emissions of around 6.6 million metrics tons. Everyone knows what a Michelin tire is, but did you know that Michelin can also make him talk? For over 15 years, Michelin has been a key player in connected tires. So... what makes the Michelin connected tire so smart? For us, a connected tire only makes sense if it's combined with algorithms, data and a relevant, reliable and robust ecosystem. As the only object in contact with the road, it provides unique information in real time throughout its life. And this data is made intelligible by algorithms that draw their power from our long-standing knowledge of tire usage, tire physics and vehicle behavior. That's what makes it intelligent! Capable of providing essential information to promote safety, operational efficiency and a reduced environmental footprint. Tomorrow, it will be a precious source for further enriching the development of Michelin's connected solutions to support both professional fleets and private individuals. Because we must avoid the irreversible consequences of climate change, Michelin has decided to strengthen its greenhouse gas emission targets by aiming at net-zero, not only in its operations, but across its entire value chain by 2050, in line with a 1.5°C trajectory. Making the fight against global warming a priority, Michelin has set much more ambitious targets for 2030, with a further 20-point reduction compared with the previous target for its own operations. An ambition endorsed by The Science Based Targets initiative, which provide companies with a clearly defined pathway for reducing their emissions in line with the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement.   “We are delighted to receive SBTi's validation. It’s a genuine recognition of the value of our ambition which demonstrates the seriousness and sincerity of our approach based on scientific requirements. We are in the right direction. It’s up to us now to deliver our transition plan together with our stakeholders " explains Pierre-Martin HUET, Senior Vice President Sustainable Development and Impact at Michelin.
