🚀 Bringing Innovation to Life🚀 On 12 July 2024, I had the privilege of showcasing our product and application at the Muuni Fund Innovation Expo held at the BICC in Lilongwe. This moment was not merely a dream come true but a testament to hard work, collaboration, and patience. I had an amazing team that supported me, and together we witnessed an idea become reality. I was also honored to share the stage with one of Malawi's prominent figures, Napoleon Dzombe. This experience was particularly meaningful as our product emphasizes improving crop yields, and sharing the panel with someone who has significantly impacted the agricultural industry was truly inspiring. The expo was an incredible opportunity to witness various innovations and learn from different individuals. Our product, Crop Care, is not just an app; it is a tool that will revolutionize agriculture by providing farmers with the necessary recommendations to produce high yields, manage pests, and much more. We look forward to collaborating with others in the agricultural industry, including farmers, to tailor our app to meet their needs. A big thank you to Muuni Fund Mw for their exceptional support throughout every stage. Over the past few weeks I have found myself in places I had always imagined myself in, I just didn't imagine it would be this early on in life, by 5 years at the very least😂. One such place is the Muuni Fund Mw Expo 2024, where I exhibited McCobidy Finance as an intervention for convenient e-commerce, revenue collection and e-ticketing system for Likoma Island (I have a funny story about how I almost fainted during my presentaion, stay tuned!😅) I was overwhelmed to find District Commissioners, prominent businessmen and government officials excited about adopting our solution. They wasted no time and quickly established communication lines between the McCobidy team and themselves and soon we will be rolling it out. I am immensely grateful to Mphatso Rozaria Chanza for the for the guidance that led McCobidy all the way to top 20 (out of 1500 applicants) and also the rest of the Muuni Fund Mw team under the wise leadership of Wezi Salima for recognizing our work and granting us such an elevated platform. looking ahead, McCobidy is expected to be the most convenient e-commerce app in Malawi and beyond as it has already caught the attention of a few international agencies. I gladly invite you to witness our meteoric rise as it all unfolds.

Twelve-months down the road the ICT Research and Innovation Fund, established under the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA), celebrated a milestone-hosting the first ever Muuni Innovation Expo. The Expo showcased innovations from 70 brilliant minds identified across the country through a rigorous selection process. 𝐈𝐓𝐔 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞 𝐃𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧 𝐕𝐚𝐥𝐢𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐄𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦 𝐈𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐃𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐥𝐨𝐩𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐫𝐨𝐬𝐬-𝐂𝐮𝐭𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐃𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐬𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐖𝐨𝐫𝐤𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA), in collaboration with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) under the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance for Digital Development, held a four-day workshop on Centre Design Validation and Ecosystem Initiatives Development Services for Cross-Cutting Digital Transformation. The event took place at the Bingu International Convention Centre (BICC) in Lilongwe from July 16th to 19th, 2024. This workshop marked a significant milestone as MACRA, through the Muuni Fund, was selected as one of the 17 ITU acceleration centres under the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Alliance for Digital Development. The primary objective of the workshop was to engage with ecosystem stakeholders to validate the design of the acceleration centre, pilot the co-creation of ecosystem initiatives development services, and outline the next steps for the centre’s activities. The workshop involved a series of activities focused on co-creating the service delivery and demand management of the centre, ecosystem orchestration and business model development, governance and human resource requirements, and strategies for community engagement to drive cross-cutting digital transformation in Malawi. The ITU identified five strategic objectives to drive digital transformation, one of which is “ecosystem initiatives development,” which the workshop highlighted. Accordingly, the Malawi acceleration centre aims to foster collaboration and synergies that scale digital innovations and create cross-sectoral value, ultimately contributing to a competitive digital economy.

In a world that is rapidly becoming more digitalized, Malawi faces unique challenges that also present opportunities. The event showcased innovators who introduced various tech-driven solutions to address the country's issues. Each innovation was a powerful reminder that we have the potential to change Malawi's narrative and trajectory. Keynote addresses by the Minister of Information and Digitalization, Moses Kunkuyu, and MACRA Director General, Daud Suleman,  among others, highlighted the immense talent and potential within our country. They emphasized the importance of investing in these ideas. PRESENTING INNOVATIVE PROJECTS EFFECTIVELY: A KEY LEARNING EXPERIENCE Through my experience presenting the VENAT Smart Greenhouse System under the Muuni Fund Mw, I have come to realize that many of us in the tech and innovation space struggle with effectively communicating our projects. As creators, we often get caught up in showcasing the impressive features and functions we've developed, neglecting the fact that not everyone is tech-savvy. For instance, when presenting an electric car that charges on solar power, focusing too much on the technical aspects of the lithium battery may lose your audience. This approach can lead potential investors to perceive the product as expensive, without considering the long-term benefits or cost savings. To successfully connect with clients and investors, it's essential to emphasize how your innovation addresses one or more of the following key points: - Does it make things faster or easier? - Does it reduce labor, energy, or money? - Does it increase productivity? By communicating your features in alignment with these selling points, you can demonstrate how your innovation can improve lives. Remember, a presentation is primarily a sales pitch, with a smaller portion dedicated to technical details. By adopting this approach, we can effectively convey our vision and secure the support we need to bring our innovative projects to life.
