Apple Music Home Session: Joeboy

For our Apple Music Home Session series—in which we ask artists to record stripped-back versions of their biggest hits, alongside a cover of one of their favourite songs—Nigerian Afropop singer-songwriter Joeboy reimagines the tracks that capture his state of mind, including “Contour”, “Body & Soul” and the mega-viral hit “Sip (Alcohol)”. “I selected the songs because they signify where I’m at mentally, one way or the other,” Joeboy tells Apple Music. “What felt really special to me is the soul and the sincerity in the delivery of my vocals, and the emotions it evokes.” Here, he also reimagines “Beautiful Girls”, Jamaican American star Sean Kingston’s 2007 debut single. “It was basically the soundtrack of my early teen years and reminded me of when I started crushing on girls,” Joeboy explains. “The song really influenced my writing abilities and my love for pop/dancehall love songs. [Now] I am more mature, more precise and more intentional with the way I go about my music.”
