EVERYBODY GO TO THE DISCOTEK

The phrase “EVERYBODY GO TO THE DISCOTEK” has become synonymous with Darell. Whether raising his glass with Sech on “Otro Trago” or killing it with Brytiago on “Asesina,” the raspy reggaetonero lets everyone know he’s here with those five simple words. So it makes sense that he’d finally append his signature hook to his follow-up to 2020’s underrated LVV the Real Rondon. From the opener “EN 4” on, his deep voice rides the kinds of rugged yet melodically infused rhythms he’s built a career upon. While so many of his peers have stepped out of the club in pursuit of elusive and uncharacteristic pop hits, he remains loyal to the format while demonstrating his strength as one of the genre’s most consistent practitioners. A master of the posse cut, he shines even around formidable players Nicky Jam, Wisin, and Luar La L on the dancehall throwback “Wait Deh Man.” Indeed, the collabs come fast and furious, Darell teaming with Myke Towers for “Adentro de la Disco” and cultivating reggae vibes with Ozuna on “Sale Pa la Calle.” Omar Courtz proves a worthy foil on “Me Dice Daddy,” while the aforementioned Sech returns with R&B flavor on “Dame Break.” Still, Darell’s not afraid to experiment musically, evident on the tropical hybrid “Lollipop,” the dembow cut “Rulay,” and the polyrhythmically trembling “Funka.”
