About Spacey Jane

Hailing from the Western Australian outpost of Fremantle, Spacey Jane blissfully floats between the jangly tradition of classic Antipodean indie pop and the sparkling sheen of modern alt-rock. Formed in 2016 by singer/guitarist Caleb Harper, drummer Kieran Lama, guitarist Ashton Hardman-Le Cornu and bassist Amelia Murray, the quartet immediately distinguished themselves with their 2017 debut EP, No Way to Treat an Animal. After refining their sound and replacing Murray with Peppa Lane, Spacey Jane made their bid for the big leagues with 2020’s Sunlight, solidifying their position as the missing link between the urgent romanticism of indie torchbearers Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and the stadium-razing heartland anthems of Kings of Leon. The group lodged their first Top 10 single with the multi-platinum, midtempo ballad “Booster Seat”, setting the table for 2022’s contemplative, post-pandemic follow-up Here Comes Everybody. With its classic-sounding hooks and timely themes about precarious mental health, that album yielded four singles that cleared the Top 10 of triple j’s publicly voted Hottest 100 countdown across two years. “A big goal of this record was to make things feel a little more separated and have space in the music,” Harper told Apple Music in 2022. Cut during those album sessions but released as a stand-alone single, 2024’s “One Bad Day” argued for sticking through unpleasant relationship turmoil that might improve things on the other side. As with many other Space Jane tunes, it calls out hard-earned milestones of personal resilience.
