About Marcus King
A fourth-generation musician, singer-songwriter/guitarist Marcus King got his first electric guitar at age seven and, a year later, he started playing with his father’s band, Marvin King & Blues Revival. ∙ After forming The Marcus King Band at age 15 with five friends in his hometown of Greenville, South Carolina, he became known for his Duane Allman-inspired blend of blues and rock. ∙ King found online fame in 2014, when a video of him playing the standard “Driftin’ Blues” at Norman’s Rare Guitars in L.A. went viral and racked up more than 1.5 million views. ∙ Guitar legend Warren Haynes invited The Marcus King Band to open shows for his group, Gov’t Mule, and in 2015 Haynes reissued MKB’s debut album, Soul Insight, on his own label. ∙ The band’s self-titled 2016 sophomore LP hit No. 2 on Billboard’s Blues Albums chart, and their 2018 release, Carolina Confessions, debuted at No. 2 on the Heatseekers chart. ∙ In 2019, King starred at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Festival, sold out his own fest (The Marcus King Band Family Reunion), and made his Grand Ole Opry debut playing his granddad’s guitar. ∙ King recorded his Grammy-nominated 2020 solo debut, El Dorado, with producer/cowriter Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys and a studio band of old-school Nashville hitmakers.
