KONGOS

About KONGOS

Comprising the sons of ’70s South African pop star John Kongos, the alternative-rock quartet KONGOS formed in their mother’s hometown of Phoenix, Arizona, in 2003. ∙ Their self-titled 2007 debut album established the band’s unique accordion- and beat-driven sound, influenced by such heroes as Paul Simon, Bob Marley, and Queens of the Stone Age. ∙ KONGOS’ hypnotically percussive 2011 single “I’m Only Joking,” from their sophomore album, Lunatic, was a South African radio hit. ∙ “Come With Me Now,” a propulsive dance tune, was their first US hit, rising to No. 1 on the Billboard Alternative chart in 2014. ∙ Their double-Platinum 2016 single, “Take It From Me,” became the theme song for the Australian version of the reality show I’m a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! ∙ The band’s self-directed videos for their three biggest singles have collectively been viewed more than 145 million times. ∙ In 2018, KONGOS documented three years of touring in an eight-part video series, Bus Call, mixing family history with concert and behind-the-scenes footage.
