Formed in Ellensburg, Washington in 1985, Screaming Trees not only helped set up the grunge explosion of the early 1990s, but they ultimately became a part of it. Led by the dusky voiced Mark Lanegan and Gary Lee Connor's fluid guitar work, the Trees spent years perfecting a fusion of punk and psychedelia with releases on legendary label SST. When Seattle's rock scene erupted, Screaming Trees earned mainstream attention with their sixth album Sweet Oblivion and hit track “Nearly Lost You”. The band split in the late '90s with Lanegan since finding accolades with his varied solo efforts.
