Run-DMC were hip-hop's first rock stars. They matched the volume and attack of power chords and cymbals with the intensity of their rapping on “Rock Box” and “King of Rock” and crossed over with their Aerosmith-assisted cover of “Walk This Way”. Rev. Run and D.M.C. were fleet, ferocious MCs who updated the call-and-response routines of early b-boys with rapid-fire flows on “Peter Piper”. Jam Master Jay, together with producers Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons, created the stark, percussion-driven sound of tracks like “Sucker M.C.'s (Krush-Groove 1)” that propelled rap music out of the disco era.
