Released shortly after Slowdive’s second album, Souvlaki, this EP marks a shift from gauzy dream pop toward more experimental and electronic sounds. The riveting results align them more with Aphex Twin than any shoegaze peers. On “In Mind” and “Good Day Sunshine”, the prominent rippling rhythms add an undercurrent of tension to Rachel Goswell’s hazed-out vocals and the wispy washes of guitar and synthesiser. The band charts another new direction on “Country Rain”, which glides from stately folk-pop into ambient-techno abstraction.
