Not to be confused with Prozack Turner from Foreign Legion, this Prozak is a Saginaw, Mich., emcee down with Tech N9ne and signed to his Strange Music label. Paranormal is his third album (following Afterbirth and Tales of the Sick). It finds the self-described Hitchcock of Hip-Hop doing his usual thing: dropping dark and wordy verses over consistently gritty, rock-tinged production. While Prozak isn't as over-the-top and blood-drenched as other horror-inspired rappers like Necro or Brotha Lynch Hung, he definitely gets down and dirty, especially on "End of Us" and "Wake Up You're Dead." Yet he also shows a more melodic, pop-minded sensibility on tracks like "Until Then" and "Million Miles Away." With a hard-to-pigeonhole sound somewhere between Slug, Buck65, and Linkin Park, Prozak keeps proving himself a highly skilled, unpredictable emcee on the cusp of the big time.
